The festival of the sweetest fruit of Sant'Arcangelo, Slow Food Presidium of Val d'Agri
In the heart of Val d'Agri, the small municipality of Sant'Arcangelo, with just over six thousand inhabitants in the province of Potenza, celebrates its sweetest fruit: the percoco. It is a variety of juicy and fragrant peach, with firm flesh that adheres to the stone, which has found ideal soil and climate here and has become a Slow Food Presidium, an award that protects its typicality and enhances its peasant history.
The Sagra del Percoco was born with the aim of promoting the versatility of this fruit and recovering a product that has always been linked to the village's tradition. Among the stands set up by the Pro Loco of Sant'Arcangelo, in Piazza San Michele, you can taste fresh percoco peaches but also their myriad transformations: candied, in cakes, ice creams, jams, and artisanal liqueurs. A journey that involves local producers, chefs, and food artisans, showing how an entire gastronomic culture can arise from a single fruit.
More than just a summer festival, the Sagra del Percoco is an opportunity for the village to tell its story and strengthen its bond with its territory. The Pro Loco, together with the Municipality of Sant'Arcangelo, makes this day a moment to promote an excellence of the province of Potenza and to welcome visitors, in a convivial atmosphere of tastings, music, and encounters centered around the community's symbolic product.
The Sagra del Percoco returns in August 2026 to Sant'Arcangelo, in Piazza San Michele, to celebrate the fruit symbol of the village. The event, organized by the Pro Loco, will once again feature fresh percoco peaches and their artisanal transformations, from desserts to liqueurs.
