The flavours of shepherding for the summer of the village of Celestino V
In Sant'Angelo Limosano, in the inland Molise region, province of Campobasso, the pastoral tradition cuisine is still alive. On August 18th, the village dedicates the Sagra delle Pezzate e Fasciuole to it, which brings two symbolic dishes of the territory to the table: the pezzata, made from sheep meat slowly cooked according to the ancient shepherds' recipe, and the fasciuole, beans prepared in the traditional way.
The sagra (traditional festival) is also a moment of welcome for emigrants returning to the village for holidays, an occasion for the community to come together and celebrate summer. Amidst the food stalls and music, the village comes alive with a convivial celebration that showcases the authentic products and flavours of inland Molise.
Sant'Angelo Limosano, known for being the birthplace of Pope Celestino V, thus completes its festival calendar with a summer gastronomic event. After the religious festival of the hermit pope in spring, the Sagra delle Pezzate e Fasciuole is the popular and convivial face of the village's summer, to be experienced by savouring the traditional pastoral cuisine.
The Sagra delle Pezzate e Fasciuole returns on August 18th, 2026, in Sant'Angelo Limosano (CB). The symbolic dishes of the village's pastoral tradition will once again be the stars: the sheep meat pezzata and the fasciuole (beans), served at the food stalls during an evening of celebration accompanied by music. The detailed program for the evening is usually announced in the weeks leading up to the event.
