The Roero Triathlon in Sommariva Perno

The Roero Triathlon is one of the most cherished triathlon races in southwestern Piedmont. It takes place in Sommariva Perno, a small town in the Province of Cuneo nestled among the rolling hills of the Rocche del Roero, and reached its twenty-year milestone in 2026. It is a highly anticipated event for both enthusiasts and competitive athletes, who combine the sporting challenge with the discovery of a landscape rich in scenic beauty and culinary delights.

The race format

The competition is held over the sprint distance, the most popular and accessible triathlon format, consisting of three consecutive segments:

• 750-meter swim, in the pools of the Centro Sportivo Roero;
• 20-kilometer cycle, along the hilly roads crossing the vineyards and countryside of the Roero;
• 5-kilometer run to finish the race.

The race is an official federal event, gathering clubs and teams from across the region, with both absolute and category rankings. Over the years, top-level athletes from the Piedmontese triathlon scene have competed for the podium.

The Centro Sportivo Roero, the heart of the event

The Centro Sportivo Roero in Sommariva Perno serves as the event's headquarters: it houses the swimming pool for the swim segment, the transition area, and the start and finish lines. Its location, surrounded by greenery and just a short walk from the town center, makes logistics simple and creates a particularly convivial atmosphere, with spectators following the various stages of the race up close.

Sport, community, and Roero strawberries

Beyond the competitive aspect, the Roero Triathlon is above all a local celebration and community event, organized in collaboration with the Pro Loco of Sommariva Perno and local triathlon clubs. One of the most appreciated traditions is the race pack, which welcomes participants with the famous Roero strawberries, a symbol of Sommariva Perno and a flagship of local agriculture. It is the perfect way to link athletic effort to the delicious identity of this corner of Piedmont.

A territory to discover

Running, cycling, and swimming in the Roero means crossing one of the most evocative landscapes in Piedmont, among the Rocche, the UNESCO-listed vineyards of the Langhe-Roero and Monferrato, and the historic villages of the area.
