The festival of Valdostan cheeses

The Quart Formage Festival is the grand festival dedicated to the cheeses of the Aosta Valley, hosted in Quart, a municipality in the Province of Aosta that extends along the Dora Baltea river just east of the regional capital. The event was created to promote and allow tasting of the region's typical dairy products, paired with local wines, in a setting of great charm: that of the Castle of Quart, a medieval fortress that dominates the area, and the ancient villages of the municipality.

A journey of taste

The absolute protagonists are the Valdostan cheeses: Fontina DOP and alpine Fontina, Fromadzo DOP, the cheeses from Gressoney and Ourty, and sheep and goat cheeses from local producers. Alongside local cheeses, the festival also hosts special guests from other regions — such as Beaufort and Castelmagno — in a dialogue between alpine cheese cultures. Each tasting is accompanied by Valdostan wines: Petite Arvine, Cornalin, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Muscat, and other mountain grape varieties.

The "a pià" format

In recent editions, the festival has adopted the "a pià" format: a walk of a few kilometers through the hamlets of Quart, punctuated by tasting stops where you can discover the best cheeses of the Valley paired with local wines. The route passes through characteristic places in the municipality, including agricultural areas, ancient villages, and spots of natural interest, combining the pleasure of food with the discovery of the landscape. The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Quart.
