The neighborhood festival dedicated to the pumpkin in San Cataldo
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Pumpkin Festival is one of the most beloved end-of-summer events in San Cataldo, a town in the Sicilian hinterland in the province of Caltanissetta. Organized by the Don Bosco Neighborhood Committee, the event brings the Salesian Oratory area to life every September, between Piazza Calvario and Via Misteri, transforming the streets of the district into a large open-air party space.
The absolute protagonist is the pumpkin, a vegetable that symbolizes the traditional Nisseno peasant culture, prepared in numerous gastronomic ways. Along the stalls, you can taste pumpkin-based dishes cooked according to home recipes, in a journey of flavors that tells the story of the simple and generous cuisine of the Sicilian hinterland. The festival thus highlights a humble yet versatile product, deeply connected to the dietary habits of a territory tied to the land.
Beyond the food and wine, the evening offers live music, with bands performing great hits from the past, accompanying the audience until late at night. There is also the traditional tombola with rich prizes, an eagerly awaited moment that involves both young and old. The success of the festival is also thanks to the young people and volunteers of the neighborhood, in a spirit of collaboration that is the true essence of the event.
The Pumpkin Festival is more than just a gastronomic event: it is a meeting point for the entire community of San Cataldo, a moment of social connection where the Don Bosco district gathers around its traditions. Included in the calendar of festivals in the province of Caltanissetta, the event represents a small but authentic slice of popular Sicily, far from major tourist flows and close to the daily life of the town.
Founded in 1607, San Cataldo is a town of about 23,500 inhabitants nestled in the hills of the Sicilian hinterland. In addition to the Pumpkin Festival, the town is known for its evocative Holy Week celebrations and its typical products, from donuts to honey and almond cavatuna. Participating in the festival also means discovering a village with a strong identity, in the heart of the Sicily Region.
The 2026 edition of the Pumpkin Festival in San Cataldo is expected, as per tradition, for an evening in September. At the current date, the organizers of the Don Bosco Neighborhood Committee have not yet announced the official date and detailed program. The usual format is expected, with tastings of pumpkin-based dishes, live music, and a tombola in the Salesian Oratory area. Information will be updated as soon as it becomes available.
The event takes place in the Salesian Oratory area of San Cataldo (CL), between Piazza Calvario and Via Misteri, in the Don Bosco neighborhood.
The festival is traditionally held on an evening in September, from 8:00 PM until around midnight.
