A month of events featuring sports, entertainment, culture, and traditions in Caltanissetta

Settembre è Nisseno is the major festival that accompanies Caltanissetta, the capital of the province of the same name in the heart of Sicily, from the height of summer until the end of September. It is not a single event, but a dense calendar of appointments promoted by the municipal administration that weaves together sports, entertainment, music, culture, and religious traditions into one great celebration spread throughout the city.
The strength of Settembre è Nisseno lies in its reach: events take place in the city's iconic locations, from Corso Umberto I to Parco Palmintelli, from the Michele Abbate Cultural Center to Palazzo Moncada, as well as sports facilities and the historic center. In recent editions, the program has alternated concerts by national artists, cabaret shows, theatrical festivals like Teatri di Pietra, outdoor cinema screenings, and art and photography exhibitions.
Alongside entertainment, the festival celebrates the sporting roots and identity of the territory. Among the most anticipated events is the Coppa Nissena, a historic hill-climb car race that attracts enthusiasts from all over the island to the track towards Ponte Capodarso, along with basketball, volleyball, and soccer tournaments and gatherings. The end of September is dedicated to popular devotion with the Fiera di San Michele, the funfair, and the solemn procession of the patron saint, the culminating moment of city life.
Designed to involve families, children, young people, and visitors, Settembre è Nisseno also aims to be a driver for the territory: an opportunity to rediscover the heritage of Caltanissetta and to stimulate local commerce and tourism. Most events are free and held outdoors, making the festival one of the most extensive cultural offerings in central Sicily.
The dates and program for the 2026 edition of Settembre è Nisseno have not yet been announced. Based on previous editions, the festival should take place in September in Caltanissetta, featuring concerts, theatrical performances, outdoor cinema, sporting competitions, and traditional events such as the Coppa Nissena and the Fiera di San Michele.
The complete calendar will be published by the Municipality of Caltanissetta in the weeks leading up to the event, usually during the summer.
