A spring celebration of flavors in the Pisan hills of Peccioli
The Prosciutto and Baccelli Festival is one of the most cherished local events in Peccioli, a village nestled in the Pisan hills in the province of Pisa, in the heart of Tuscany. Every year, between late April and early May, the event draws food lovers from across the Valdera region to celebrate the simplest and most genuine pairing of the Tuscan farming tradition: prosciutto served with baccelli, or fresh seasonal fava beans, a true symbol of spring in these countryside landscapes.
The prosciutto and baccelli combination is a classic of Tuscan 'cucina povera' (peasant cooking), which the festival showcases by offering it for lunch, afternoon snacks, and dinner. Alongside the star of the show, the stalls offer numerous local specialties and traditional products from the Valdera area, inviting visitors on a tasting journey to discover the authentic flavors of the Pisan hills.
A unique feature of the event is its itinerant nature: the first days take place at the Incubatore d'impresa along the Strada Provinciale della Fila, while the final day moves to the Le Serre area, at the Spazio Eventi Trasparenze, coinciding with the traditional Festa sulle Serre. This dual setting allows guests to experience the festival in different parts of the Peccioli municipality.
Beyond the culinary offerings, the festival features an artisan market, creative workshops, and attractions designed for children, such as inflatables. It is a convivial opportunity to spend spring days outdoors with the family, enjoying good food and a warm village atmosphere.
The event is managed by the Corale Valdera, a local association that has been bringing this festival to life for over twenty years, reaching its 26th edition in 2026. Proceeds from the festival help support the association's activities, in the true spirit of community.
The 26th edition of the Prosciutto and Baccelli Festival was held in Peccioli on Saturday, April 25, Friday, May 1, and Sunday, May 3, 2026. The first two dates took place at the Incubatore d'impresa, along the Strada Provinciale della Fila, while the final day on May 3 moved to Le Serre, at the Spazio Eventi Trasparenze, in conjunction with the Festa sulle Serre.
As per tradition, the food stalls offered prosciutto, fava beans, and local specialties for lunch, snacks, and dinner, accompanied by an artisan market and attractions for families and children.
