The widespread Christmas village in the historic center of Empoli
Every year, from mid-November to early January, the historic center of Empoli (Province of Florence, Tuscany) dresses up for the holidays and becomes Empoli Christmas City, one of the most popular and beloved Christmas events in the entire region. The squares and streets of the city heart fill with lights, scents, music, and attractions, drawing families and visitors from all over Tuscany and beyond.
The heart of the event is Piazza della Vittoria, which hosts the large Ferris wheel, the Christmas train, and numerous attractions, but the village extends to Piazza Farinata degli Uberti, the pedestrian area, and the streets of the center. Here, dozens of wooden market stalls offer artisanal products, Christmas decorations, gift ideas, sweets, and traditional gastronomic specialties.
In addition to the permanent attractions, the Empoli Christmas City calendar offers shows, parades, musical moments, and initiatives dedicated to families, distributed mainly on weekends. Among the most anticipated events are the gastronomic festivals linked to artisanal chocolate, extraordinary holiday markets, New Year's Eve celebrations, and the traditional Epiphany festival with the Befana's descent from the bell tower.
Organized by the Historic Center Association with the support of the Municipality of Empoli, the event has become a landmark in the Tuscan Christmas calendar over the years, capable of enlivening local commerce and transforming the center into a destination for those seeking the holiday atmosphere just a few kilometers from Florence.
The dates for the 2026-2027 edition of Empoli Christmas City are confirmed: the event will animate the historic center of Empoli from November 14, 2026, to January 10, 2027. This year will also feature Christmas markets with wooden chalets between Piazza della Vittoria and Piazza Farinata degli Uberti, the Ferris wheel, the ice skating rink, the Christmas train, carousels, the Santa Claus World, architectural projections, and widespread light displays.
The detailed program for the 2026-2027 edition, including the schedule of shows, parades, and special events, will be published by the organizers in the weeks preceding the inauguration on November 14, 2026.
Based on previous editions, the event typically includes:
The Ferris wheel in Piazza della Vittoria, the ice skating rink, the architectural projections on the facades, and the markets spread throughout the historic center.
Empoli is easily reached by train: the station is on the Florence-Pisa line, just a few minutes' walk from the historic center. By car, take the FI-PI-LI highway (Empoli exits); using city parking lots is recommended given the pedestrianization of the center during the event.
The event takes place in the historic center of Empoli from mid-November until the beginning of January, with attractions mainly active in the afternoon and on weekends.
Access to the market area and the light displays is free. Some attractions (Ferris wheel, ice skating rink, carousels) require a ticket; packages and tickets are available on the official website and the online presale platform.
