Pro Loco Agnolottata of San Mauro Torinese

A traditional open-air lunch

The Pro Loco Agnolottata is one of the most cherished gastronomic events in San Mauro Torinese, a town in the Turin metropolitan area, in Piedmont. Every spring, Piazza Europa, next to the iconic pagoda, transforms into a large outdoor dining room where the community gathers around the iconic dish of Piedmontese cuisine: the agnolotto.

Agnolotti, the absolute stars

The heart of the festival is, of course, the agnolotti, prepared and cooked by the many Pro Loco volunteers. They are served in two classic versions, with butter and sage or with meat sauce, and plated directly in the square for hundreds of diners. In recent editions, over 250 meals have been served, with more than 45 kg of agnolotti cooked and dressed. To finish the lunch, there are the inevitable apple fritters, prepared and distributed continuously.

A community celebration

The Agnolottata is much more than just a lunch: it is a moment of connection that strengthens the town's social bonds. Organized by the Pro Loco Città di San Mauro with the patronage of the Municipality of San Mauro Torinese, the event thrives on the passionate work of dozens of volunteers who, through cooking, table service, and hospitality, make this day of good food and conviviality possible.

The agnolotto is a stuffed pasta typical of Piedmont, a guardian of a rural history made of resourcefulness and ingenuity in the kitchen. Popular events like the Agnolottata keep this heritage alive, introducing both adults and children to local flavors. In San Mauro Torinese, the Pro Loco enlivens the local calendar with various events, from the Shrove Tuesday Polentata to the Strawberry Festival, and the spring Agnolottata has become a highly anticipated fixture.
