The festival that closes the summer in Furore, in the heart of the Amalfi Coast
The Prickly Pear Festival is the event with which Furore, a small town in the province of Salerno, Campania, bids farewell to the summer season. Held in early September at the Parco della Pellerina, it has for years been the grand finale of the Facciamo Furore summer series, promoted by the municipal administration in collaboration with the Pro Loco and local associations. It is a village festival in the most authentic sense: created to celebrate a fruit that grows wild here on the terraces overlooking the sea, it has become the occasion for the entire community to come together before the village returns to the slow rhythms of autumn.
On the Amalfi Coast, the prickly pear is not an exotic curiosity but a part of the everyday landscape: the thorny pads grow along the dry-stone walls and terraces that descend toward the sea, and the fruits ripen right at the end of summer. In Furore, the prickly pear finds its way into home cooking and local liqueur production, where it gives life to Nanassino, a liqueur made from the fruit that is among the village's most typical specialties. The festival was born precisely from this: to promote a humble, identity-defining product linked to the town's farming heritage.
The formula, perfected over recent editions, is that of a single big evening: food and street food stalls open in the early evening, followed by live music and a comedy show on the stage set up in the park. In 2024, the festival on September 7th saw stalls open at 8:30 PM, followed at 9:00 PM by a concert by Alessandro D'Auria and his band, and the show A tutto Pep by Peppe Iodice and Francesco Mastandrea, all with free admission. In 2025, also on September 7th, the grand finale featured Biagio Izzo in an evening that combined music, comedy, and local flavors. The 2026 edition is scheduled for Saturday, September 5th at 8:00 PM, once again at the Parco della Pellerina.
In 2026, the Facciamo Furore series reached its fifth edition, offering six events from July 18th to September 5th: the candlelight concert on July 18th on Viale dell'Amore, La Corrida on July 31st in Piazza Mola, the Feast of San Pasquale on August 9th with a concert by Alessandro D'Auria, the Janarea Mystic Fest on August 24th at the Furore Fjord, the Foam Party on August 29th at Parco della Pellerina, and finally, the Prickly Pear Festival. A program designed for residents and visitors of all ages, alternating music, tradition, and entertainment in the most evocative spots of the village.
Furore is one of the most unique villages on the Amalfi Coast: it has no central square in the classic sense, and houses are scattered along the ridges, earning it the nickname "the village that isn't there." Since 1980, with the Muri in cerca d'Autore project, Italian and foreign artists have painted murals and created sculptures on house facades, turning the town into an open-air gallery that tells stories of local trades: for this reason, it is also known as the painted village. Just below lies the famous Furore Fjord, the inlet nestled between two rock walls with its tiny beach, one of the iconic images of the Amalfi Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1997. Coming to the Prickly Pear Festival also means discovering all of this.
The grand finale of Furore's summer is set for Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 8:00 PM, at Parco della Pellerina. The Prickly Pear Festival concludes the six events of the fifth edition of Facciamo Furore, the calendar promoted by the Municipality of Furore, which opens this year on July 18th with the candlelight concert on Viale dell'Amore.
The festival celebrates one of the territory's signature fruits and, as per tradition, promises to be a moment of celebration and conviviality for the entire community, with prickly pear-based gastronomic offerings and live entertainment in the park overlooking the Amalfi Coast.
At the moment, the Municipality has communicated the date, time, and location: the detailed schedule for the evening will be released in the weeks leading up to the event through official channels and those of the Pro Loco.
