About Gusta la Patata

Every August 14th, the village of Santa Maria La Manna in Agerola celebrates the local potato with "Gusta la Patata," one of the most beloved festivals in the Lattari Mountains and the Amalfi Coast. Grown without chemical treatments on the valley's terraces, the potato takes center stage in a menu ranging from handmade gnocchi to oven-baked pork with potato timbale. Food stalls lining the historic village streets, live music until late, and free admission make this festival an unmissable event of the Agerola Ferragosto, in the heart of the Province of Naples.

A festival in the heart of the Lattari Mountains

Gusta la Patata is the historic festival dedicated to the Agerola potato, a flagship product of the mountain agriculture of Agerola, a town in the Province of Naples overlooking the Amalfi Coast. The event takes place every year on August 14th, the eve of the Assumption, in the charming village of Santa Maria La Manna, amidst alleys, small squares, and the church that gives the hamlet its name. The event was born as part of the celebrations in honor of Maria Santissima Assunta and combines popular devotion, conviviality, and local cuisine.

The Agerola potato, the absolute star

Cultivated on the lush valley soils and the terraces of the Lattari Mountains, the Agerola potato is famous for being produced without chemical treatments. During the evening, you can enjoy it in all its variations, in a menu curated by the village chefs and families:

  • Farmer's appetizer with Agerola crostini;
  • Cheesemaker's gnocchi with fiordilatte flakes;
  • Oven-baked pork neck with potato timbale and Agerola whole-wheat bread;
  • Pastry chef's dessert, seasonal fruit, and village grapes;
  • Local wines and water.

Fiordilatte, another great product of Agerola, accompanies many dishes and testifies to the dairy richness of this plateau.

Music, village charm, and Ferragosto atmosphere

The food stalls are set up along a dedicated route in the historic village and generally open from 8:00 PM. The evening continues with live music shows and concerts that bring Santa Maria La Manna to life until late at night, in the festive atmosphere typical of the Agerola Ferragosto. Strolling through the illuminated alleys, with the church bell tower in the background and the scent of potato-based dishes in the air, is an essential part of the experience.

A festival created by the community

The festival is brought to life by the passion of the Comitato La Manna, local families, and business owners, with the collaboration of the Pro Loco Agerola. It is a free admission event that celebrates the rural roots of Agerola and attracts visitors from all over the Amalfi Coast and the Vesuvius area. In a territory known for its fiordilatte, Provolone del Monaco, and scenic trails like the Path of the Gods, Gusta la Patata remains one of the most authentic events of the Campanian summer.
