The path of light installations that illuminates Christmas among the trulli of Alberobello
In the heart of the Itria Valley, Presepe di Luce is the event that every winter transforms Alberobello, in the province of Bari (Apulia), into a grand luminous narrative. This is not merely a Christmas display: it is a true artistic and spiritual journey that guides visitors through the town's streets, featuring light installations, biblical texts, and soundscapes designed to encourage silence, listening, and contemplation.
The initiative is promoted by the «Da Betlemme a Gerusalemme» Social Promotion Association, with the support of the Municipality of Alberobello—the same organization that has managed the historic Living Nativity in the Rione Aia Piccola for over half a century. Presepe di Luce was created as a complementary, more intimate experience: a path to be walked slowly, immersed in the unique atmosphere of one of Italy's most famous villages, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its characteristic trulli with conical roofs.
Each year, the itinerary changes, crossing different areas of the town to offer a fresh experience for returning visitors. The installations wind through alleys, squares, and picturesque corners, where light interacts with the white stone and the urban landscape, creating a suspended atmosphere that blends the joy of the holiday with a moment of reflection.
The guiding theme of Presepe di Luce is light as a sign of hope. Along the path, luminous displays are accompanied by passages from the Scriptures and soundscapes that mark the stages of the journey, turning the walk into a moment of shared meditation. It is an experience suitable for families, children, and anyone wishing to experience Christmas with a different perspective, far from the commercial frenzy of the holidays.
Presepe di Luce is part of the rich Christmas program in Alberobello, which also includes the traditional Living Nativity with over two hundred participants and numerous events throughout the town. Together, these appointments make the Apulian village one of the most evocative destinations in Southern Italy to experience the magic of Christmas among the trulli, attracting visitors from all over Apulia and beyond.
For its 5th edition, Presepe di Luce deeply renewed the experience by moving to a new area of the town: the 2025-2026 itinerary unfolded between Via Monte Santo and Via Monte Adamello, offering new perspectives compared to previous editions held in the Rione Aia Piccola.
Along the path, light installations intertwined with biblical texts and soundscapes, creating an experience designed as an invitation "to silence, listening, and contemplation." The main theme was light as a sign of hope. The route, with free admission, remained open daily from sunset to dawn until February 2, 2026.
The edition was part of Alberobello's Christmas program alongside the 55th edition of the Living Nativity (December 26-29, 2025, Rione Aia Piccola, theme "How long is the night"), confirming the Apulian village as one of the most evocative Christmas destinations in Southern Italy.
Luminous itinerary between Via Monte Santo and Via Monte Adamello, featuring light installations, biblical texts, and soundscapes. Open daily from sunset to dawn, from December 7, 2025, to February 2, 2026. In parallel, the 55th edition of the Living Nativity took place from December 26 to 29, 2025, in the Rione Aia Piccola.
Alberobello can be reached by car via the SS172 (exits from Bari or Taranto) and by the Ferrovie del Sud Est railway line connecting Bari to Martina Franca. The Alberobello station is just a few minutes' walk from the historic center. The nearest airports are Bari-Palese and Brindisi-Casale.
The path is open daily from sunset to dawn. Admission is free and does not require a reservation. We recommend wearing comfortable, warm clothing suitable for an evening walk in winter.
The historic center of Alberobello and its trulli are also worth visiting during the day. For updated information on dates and the itinerary, it is best to check the channels of the «Da Betlemme a Gerusalemme» association and the Municipality of Alberobello.
