Peoples, dances, and colors in the Capital of the Trulli
For over forty years, the "Città dei Trulli" International Folklore Festival has been the premier summer event for folklore in Alberobello, in the Province of Bari, in the heart of the Itria Valley. Established in 1984 and promoted by the "Città dei Trulli" Folk Group, the event brings groups from different countries around the world to the Capital of the Trulli every year, creating an encounter of traditional dances, costumes, and music that has welcomed delegations from all continents over time.
The festival spans several days: the opening traditionally takes place in the hamlet of Coreggia, before moving to the center of Alberobello, where the heart of the evenings is Piazzale Biagio Miraglia, the amphitheater of the Municipal Gardens. Here, evening shows, performances by guest groups, and costume parades take place, winding through the town, often just a stone's throw from the famous Rione Monti and Aia Piccola districts with their cone-roofed trulli.
The festival celebrates Alberobello's deep bond with its own identity: the historic center, with its dry-stone structures, is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Recent editions have intertwined the event with celebrations for the anniversary of the UNESCO recognition and with twinning projects between communities that preserve folk traditions, such as the one with the "La Pacchianella" group from Monte Sant'Angelo.
For lovers of folk traditions and families, the "Città dei Trulli" International Folklore Festival is the perfect opportunity to experience Alberobello on one of its most authentic evenings, when Apulia becomes a meeting point for diverse peoples and cultures.
From July 30 to August 2, 2026, Alberobello hosts a new edition of the "Città dei Trulli" International Folklore Festival, promoted by the "Città dei Trulli" Folk Group. The event opens on July 30 in the hamlet of Coreggia and continues until August 2 in the center of Alberobello, with Piazzale Biagio Miraglia as the main setting for the evenings.
The 2026 edition is part of the "We Are in Trulli – Summer Edition 2026" program, the summer calendar of the Municipality of Alberobello dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the UNESCO inscription, featuring over one hundred events from June to October.
By car: Alberobello is accessible via the SS172 "dei Trulli" road; from the A14 motorway, take the Gioia del Colle or Bari exit, then the SS100 and SS172. By train: Alberobello station on the Ferrovie del Sud Est line (Bari–Martina Franca–Taranto route). By plane: Bari-Palese airport, approximately 60 km away.
Outdoor evening events are free of charge. The main shows in Piazzale Biagio Miraglia take place in the evening, generally around 9:30 PM. It is recommended to check the updated dates and program on the official website.
