Locorotondo's grand fireworks competition for Saint Roch

The Valle d'Itria Pyrotechnic Festival is a historic highlight of the summer calendar in Locorotondo, one of Italy's most beautiful villages overlooking the Valle d'Itria in the province of Bari (Puglia). Reaching its 65th edition in 2025, the event traces its roots back to the early 1960s and is now considered one of the most prestigious and long-standing pyrotechnic art competitions in Southern Italy.
The heart of the festival is the competition between the most renowned Italian pyrotechnic firms, who perform light shows lasting several hours. Each company presents its own "fire," a choreography of launches, luminous cascades, and synchronized colors. The 2025 edition featured Di Matteo (Naples), L'Artificiosa dei F.lli Di Candia (Salerno), and Pannella (Benevento), with L'Artificiosa dei F.lli Di Candia taking the win, honored by both the technical jury and the public vote.
What makes this event unique is the dual verdict: alongside the technical jury of experts, the audience itself votes for the best display, now even via smartphone. In 2025, over 1,400 spectators participated in the public vote, confirming the massive turnout that draws tens of thousands of people from across the region and beyond every year.
The Pyrotechnic Festival is part of the patronal feast of Saint Roch, the patron saint of Locorotondo, celebrated on August 16th. The show kicks off at midnight, following the solemn procession of the saint's statue through the historic center. Music, illuminations, stalls, and popular devotion set the scene for the pyrotechnic night at the Arena Bellavista, located along the panoramic road between Via Martina Franca and Via Fasano, offering a spectacular view over the Valle d'Itria.
Admission to the festival is free. The combination of the magic of the fireworks, the charm of the village of Locorotondo, and the natural setting of the Valle d'Itria makes this one of the most anticipated pyrotechnic shows of the Apulian summer, attracting visitors and enthusiasts from all over Italy and Europe.
The Valle d'Itria Pyrotechnic Festival will return to Locorotondo (Bari) in the summer of 2026 for the Saint Roch patronal feast. At the moment, the official dates and program for the 2026 edition have not yet been released: the event traditionally takes place in August, featuring the grand nightly pyrotechnic competition at the Arena Bellavista with free admission. Information will be updated as soon as the Saint Roch Festival Committee publishes the final calendar.
Locorotondo can be reached by car via the SS172 dei Trulli; the nearest train stations are served by the Ferrovie del Sud Est (Bari-Martina Franca-Taranto line). The reference airports are Bari-Palese and Brindisi-Casale.
The show takes place at the Arena Bellavista, along the panoramic road (Via Martina Franca - Via Fasano), starting at midnight on the night of the Saint Roch feast (August 16th). Free admission.
We recommend arriving well in advance to find parking and a good viewing spot, and to bring water and comfortable clothing. The event is family-friendly but continues late into the night.
