An evening dedicated to polenta in Naz-Sciaves

The Polenta Festival is one of the most beloved gastronomic highlights of the summer in Naz-Sciaves/Natz-Schabs, a village on the sunny plateau overlooking the Bressanone basin in the autonomous province of Bolzano, Trentino-South Tyrol. The event takes place in the center of Naz, transforming the square into a large open-air gathering where locals and visitors meet to celebrate a simple, iconic dish of mountain cuisine.

Polenta, the "Plentn" of South Tyrolean tradition

The absolute star is polenta, affectionately called Plentn in the local dialect. Yellow cornmeal has been a staple of South Tyrolean peasant cooking for centuries, and during the festival, it is offered in every possible variation: sweet or savory, as a side or a main dish. A large display cauldron demonstrates the traditional preparation of polenta, while various stalls offer different interpretations prepared by local associations.

Music, markets, and village atmosphere

The evening is brought to life by live music from local bands, as part of the Sunnseitn summer series, which brings concerts and festivities to the heart of Naz every Wednesday in July and August. The tastings are complemented by a farmers' market featuring regional products and artisanal specialties from the area. The atmosphere is that of a convivial and relaxed South Tyrolean village festival, suitable for families and visitors of all ages.

The Polenta Festival is a certified Green Event according to the criteria of the South Tyrol Environmental Agency: it emphasizes regional and seasonal products, the use of reusable tableware, and sustainable organization. It is a way to experience South Tyrolean gastronomic tradition while respecting the landscape and environment of the Naz-Sciaves plateau.
