The Tiso farmers' festival, one of the most authentic celebrations of South Tyrolean rural tradition.
The Bauernfestl in Teis is one of the most authentic and beloved events in the South Tyrolean autumn calendar. It takes place in the village of Tiso (Teis), at the gateway to the famous Val di Funes, in the municipality of Funes/Villnöß, in the province of Bolzano (Trentino-Alto Adige region). For an entire day, the village square, the Dorfplatz, comes alive with the sights and skills of traditional rural life, offering visitors of all ages a deep dive into the valley's most genuine traditions.
The heart of the event is the rediscovery of traditional rural crafts. Along the stalls set up in the square, artisans and farmers demonstrate techniques that might otherwise be lost:
The most anticipated attraction, especially for children, is the sheep shearing: after shearing, the wool is processed and transformed into felt and the traditional Potschn, the typical South Tyrolean winter footwear.
The event also features a farmers' market, offering fruit, vegetables, and typical products from the valley, where you can buy directly from local producers. The day is complemented by the specialties of South Tyrolean rural cuisine, carefully prepared according to traditional recipes for a moment of authentic gastronomic pleasure in the open air.
The Bauernfestl is brought to life by various musical groups, folk dancers, and traditional performances that evoke the atmosphere of village festivals of the past. The event is organized by the Tiso Brass Band (Musikkapelle Teis), which uses this festival to keep the community's roots alive. The event, which is also part of the Gallo Rosso (Roter Hahn) quality seal circuit, takes place rain or shine.
Set at the foot of the spectacular Odle peaks, the Bauernfestl in Teis is much more than just a festival: it is an opportunity to experience the rural culture of the Val di Funes up close, in one of the most picturesque settings in the Dolomites. An event designed for the whole family, blending tradition, craftsmanship, taste, and conviviality.
On Sunday, October 18, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, the Dorfplatz of Tiso (Funes/Villnöß) will host a new edition of the farmers' festival. The program includes live demonstrations of ancient crafts — bread baking, weaving, pottery, felting, wood carving, and grain threshing — along with the unmissable sheep shearing and subsequent wool processing.
The day is completed by the farmers' market with typical products from the valley, rural South Tyrolean cuisine, and musical groups and folk dances. The event, organized by the Tiso Brass Band, takes place rain or shine.
