Polenta, mushrooms, and grilled specialties at a 1,354-meter alpine hut above the Puster Valley
The Polenta and Barbecue Festival is the summer culinary highlight at Almdorf Haidenberg, an alpine chalet village located at an altitude of 1,354 meters in the hamlet of Santo Stefano (Stefansdorf), above the town of San Lorenzo di Sebato, in the Puster Valley. We are in the heart of South Tyrol, just a stone's throw from Brunico and at the foot of the Plan de Corones (Kronplatz) ski area, one of the most beloved mountains in the province of Bolzano.
The star of the show is the quintessential mountain dish: polenta, served piping hot and accompanied by seasonal mushrooms. Alongside rustic traditions, the festival features a rich selection of barbecue specialties for those craving bolder flavors. To finish, there is always homemade strudel, the iconic dessert of South Tyrol. Everything is prepared with fresh, local ingredients and served in the charming setting of the alpine hut.
Lunch is enjoyed on the Almdorf panoramic terrace, offering sweeping views of the Brunico basin and the surrounding peaks. The atmosphere is informal and convivial, typical of Tyrolean village festivals: music, long outdoor tables, and the warm hospitality characteristic of Puster Valley huts. It is the perfect opportunity to combine a high-altitude hike with a gourmet stop.
The event takes place every Friday and Sunday throughout the summer, from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM. No reservation is needed: simply head up to the hut and find a seat. During the season, Almdorf Haidenberg also hosts other events centered on farming traditions, such as baking bread in a wood-fired oven and themed evenings in the tavern, enriching the experience for visitors and guests alike.
Events like this capture the culinary soul of South Tyrol, where alpine hut culture and local products remain at the heart of summer life. For visitors, the Haidenberg Polenta and Barbecue Festival is an authentic and simple way to experience the Puster Valley mountains through its flavors.

All this on the panoramic terrace at 1,354 meters, overlooking Brunico and Plan de Corones. No reservation is required. Throughout the summer, an additional folk event is planned in August (date to be announced) featuring farming demonstrations and local products.
