An Abruzzo village that turns into poetry

The PoetaMi Festival - Miglianico Village of Poetry is a spring event that brings the historic center of Miglianico, a small town in the Province of Chieti, Abruzzo, to life every year. Conceived with the idea of giving poetry a physical space and a community, the festival turns the village into a widespread stage for verses, readings, and music for an entire weekend, attracting poets, enthusiasts, and visitors from across the region and beyond.

A national-level literary prize

At the heart of the event is the PoetaMi Prize, a poetry competition divided into two sections: one dedicated to unpublished individual poems and one to published collections released in recent years. Winners receive plaques and cash prizes, alongside special awards such as the Under 35 Prize and the Margherita Anzellotti Prize, reserved for Abruzzo authors. A jury of critics, poets, and teachers evaluates the numerous entries, helping to make the festival a benchmark for contemporary poetry in Italy.

The Paride Di Federico Prize and schools

The festival is paired with the Paride Di Federico Prize, dedicated to the memory of the young poet from Miglianico who passed away prematurely, and reserved for primary and secondary school students. Through meetings with writers and workshops, the "Macondo Schools" section introduces younger generations to poetic writing and reading, rooting the festival in the local educational community.

Poetic lectures, music, and guests

Alongside the award ceremonies, the program offers poetic lectures with guests of honor from the Italian literary scene, accompanied by live music featuring accordion, double bass, percussion, and guitar, as well as interpretive readings. The evenings, hosted in the evocative Casa delle Monache, combine the depth of the poetic word with the warmth of Abruzzo hospitality in an intimate and engaging atmosphere.

A project by Scuola Macondo

The festival is organized by the Scuola Macondo - l'Officina delle Storie of Pescara, directed by Elisa Quinto, in collaboration with the Pro Loco of Miglianico and the Municipality of Miglianico, with the patronage of the Abruzzo Region. Year after year, the event has grown to become one of the village's most defining cultural highlights, successfully combining local heritage with the promotion of poetry.
