Chieti's literary festival featuring books, meet-the-author sessions, and readings
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Autori in Piazza Festival is one of the most renowned literary events in Abruzzo, animating the squares of Chieti, the provincial capital, every year. The event was launched in 2016 during the Settimana Mozartiana, based on an idea by poet Andrea Magno, who remains the artistic director today. In just a few years, the festival has become a benchmark for promoting culture and reading throughout the Chieti area.
The core concept of the festival is direct dialogue, often in a talk-show format, between guests and the audience. Invited writers discuss their books with journalists and experts, alternating between presentations and literary readings from their works. These evenings are designed to bridge the gap between writers and readers in an informal, immersive atmosphere that has made the event a success with the local public.
Over the years, the festival has moved through various city spaces: from Piazza G.B. Vico in the historic center to Piazza Malta, and more recently, Piazza G. Marconi in the Chieti Scalo district. The meetings are held outdoors in the evening, typically starting at 9:00 PM. Using public squares as a natural stage strengthens the bond between culture and the community's daily life.
The Autori in Piazza Festival is organized by the Municipality of Chieti as part of the "Chieti City of Readers" Reading Pact initiatives, in collaboration with the Eventi Scalini association. In recent years, it has been included in the CoiLibrì Fest cultural program. The festival is also twinned with the International Travel Literature Festival, reflecting an ambition that extends beyond regional borders. Since 2022, the festival has become a permanent fixture in the city's summer calendar, confirming its status as a key literary event in Abruzzo.
At the moment, the official dates for the 2026 edition of the Autori in Piazza Festival in Chieti have not been communicated. The literary festival, which reached its ninth edition in 2025, has established itself as an annual event for the city and is expected to return in 2026 with its usual format of meetings, presentations, and readings. For the program, guests, and final dates, we recommend following the official channels of the Municipality of Chieti and the event's Facebook page.
The events take place in Chieti Scalo, in Piazza G. Marconi, which is easily accessible. By train: the Chieti Scalo station is just a short walk from the square on the Adriatic line. By car: take the Chieti exit on the A25 motorway, then follow signs for Chieti Scalo. By plane: the Abruzzo Airport in Pescara is approximately 20 km away.
Events are free to attend and are held in the evening, typically starting at 9:00 PM. For the updated program and guest list, we recommend checking the official Facebook page of the event.
