The festival of books and everything else in Pescara
The FLA – Festival of Books and Other Things is one of the longest-running and most popular cultural events in Pescara and the entire Abruzzo region. Established in the early 2000s and organized by the Mente Locale APS ETS association, the festival has turned this Adriatic city into a landmark for promoting reading and cultural exchange in Central Italy. The name itself, "Festival of Books and Other Things," reflects the nature of the event: not just books, but also music, theater, comics, journalism, and visual arts.
Today, the FLA takes place in two parts. The main edition takes place in November, transforming Pescara into a widespread "book city" for several days: theaters, museums, schools, cafés, restaurants, and art galleries become meeting points for authors and the public, from morning until late at night. Alongside this, the summer series "FLA in Estatica" brings literature to the Marina di Pescara Tourist Port Arena, featuring readings, talks, and concerts on June and July evenings, when the festival engages with the sea and the seaside atmosphere of the Adriatic coast.
Over the years, the FLA has hosted some of the most prominent names in the Italian literary and journalistic scene. The festival sections range from novels to crime fiction, poetry to comics, and reportage to short stories, always with a special focus on younger audiences and civil and social issues. Events often combine the written word with live music in a multidisciplinary format that has become the festival's hallmark.
The FLA is deeply connected to the Municipality of Pescara and the Province of Pescara, but over the years it has expanded its reach to involve other Abruzzo towns, with meetings and sections hosted outside the regional capital. The event contributes significantly to the region's cultural life and attracts a large audience every year, consisting of readers, students, professionals, and curious visitors alike.
The FLA – Festival of Books and Other Things 2026 unfolds in two parts. The "FLA in Estatica" summer series (third edition) brings literature to the Marina di Pescara Tourist Port Arena on the evenings of June 25-26 and July 22-23, 2026. In autumn, the festival returns in its main format, with meetings spread throughout the center of Pescara.
The full program for the autumn edition will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
Pescara is easily accessible by train (Pescara Centrale station, on the Adriatic line), by car via the A14 motorway (Pescara Nord–Città Sant'Angelo or Pescara Ovest–Chieti exits), and by plane thanks to the Abruzzo Airport, located just a few kilometers from the city center.
The autumn edition takes place in various locations in the center of Pescara, including the CineTeatro Massimo; the "FLA in Estatica" summer series is held at the Marina di Pescara Tourist Port Arena.
Many meetings during the main edition are free to attend; evening shows and "FLA in Estatica" events require tickets, available for pre-sale on ciaotickets. For the full program and updated information, please visit the official website pescarafestival.it.
