The board and role-playing game festival at MUSE in Trento
PlayMUSE is the annual event that transforms the MUSE - Science Museum of Trento into a vast space dedicated to gaming. Born from the collaboration between the museum and the Volkan association, the festival offers a full day of board games, role-playing, and creativity, with dozens of activities tailored for enthusiasts and families alike. Visitors can enjoy nearly two hundred gaming stations distributed throughout the museum, the garden, and the Palazzo delle Albere.
What makes PlayMUSE unique is its connection to the world of science and culture: the selected games invite participants to step into the shoes of scientists, alchemists, inventors, and explorers, with scenarios set in ancient history, outer space, tropical forests, or mysterious caves. From card games to strategy, immersive experiences to speed games and RPGs, the selection is designed to cater to both seasoned players and newcomers.
PlayMUSE takes place in the City of Trento, the capital of the Autonomous Province of Trento and the Trentino-Alto Adige region, inside one of Italy's most visited science museums, designed by Renzo Piano in the modern Albere district. Its location, just a short walk from the historic center, makes the festival easily accessible and a beloved appointment not only for gamers but also for those seeking an engaging and unique way to experience the museum.
The 2026 edition of PlayMUSE, the seventh, animated the MUSE of Trento with its main event on Sunday, June 7, 2026 (10 AM - 7 PM), preceded by lead-up activities from June 3 to 6 between the museum and Palazzo delle Albere. The public enjoyed nearly two hundred gaming stations divided into thematic areas: Guest Area (with Dungeons & Dragons sessions and enthusiast communities), Evolution Area, Space Area, and Open Play Area.
Among the most anticipated moments was the 11 AM inauguration of the scale model of the MUSE built with LEGO bricks by the builders of Dolomites Bricks, on display throughout the summer. The event also featured escape rooms, live-action role-playing, tournaments, miniatures, and activities for children as part of the Kid Pass Tour, including a show featuring The Gruffalo. The event took place simultaneously with the first edition of the Balloon Fest, dedicated to the history of flight and hot air balloons.
MUSE is located at Corso del Lavoro e della Scienza 3, in the Albere district of Trento, about a 15-minute walk from the Trento train station. By car, take the Trento Centro exit from the A22 Brennero motorway; parking is available nearby.
Access to the event is free with mandatory online booking; some activities inside the museum may require an entrance ticket or specific registration.
Advance booking is highly recommended for role-playing sessions and escape rooms, as they fill up quickly.
