The widespread festival of the Paganella plateau, blending science, nature, and new visions of the mountains
Mountain Future Stories is the cultural event that brings the Paganella plateau to life in the heart of Trentino, at the foot of the Brenta Dolomites. Promoted by the Dolomiti Paganella Tourist Board together with the Paganella Community and the municipalities of Andalo, Fai della Paganella, and Molveno, the festival is not confined to a single location: it is a widespread event that engages the squares, theaters, and libraries of several towns, from Andalo to Molveno, from Cavedago to Spormaggiore, and even the nearby Piana Rotaliana Königsberg.
The event began as the Mountain Future Festival, dedicated to the future of the mountains, and has evolved in recent years into Mountain Future Stories, broadening its scope and distributing its program across almost the entire year. The central theme remains the same: imagining the future of high-altitude lands through science, nature, and new perspectives, giving a voice to physicists, astrophysicists, mountaineers, writers, and scholars who discuss climate change, light and noise pollution, the loss of biodiversity, and the relationship between humanity and the environment.
The program unfolds in two main phases. In winter, literary meetings are held primarily in the libraries of Andalo and Fai della Paganella, featuring book presentations and dialogues with authors, often accompanied by local wine tastings. In summer and autumn, from July to September, the festival moves outdoors to the squares and natural spaces of the Paganella towns, featuring performances, documentaries, readings, and meetings with leading figures in mountaineering and scientific outreach.
Mountain Future Stories is designed for those who want to experience the Paganella and the Brenta Dolomites not just as a holiday destination, but as a territory to be listened to and understood. It is a festival that speaks of the future, community, and the environment, transforming the squares of small towns in the Province of Trento into places of dialogue and culture under the sky of Trentino-Alto Adige.
The 2026 edition of Mountain Future Stories, titled "Ideas that echo", confirms the formula of a year-round widespread festival on the Paganella plateau, in Trentino. The calendar weaves together scientific outreach, mountaineering, literature, theater, and music across several municipalities, from Andalo to Molveno.
Winter meetings are accompanied by wine tastings from Cantina Monfort.
Events are held in several municipalities of the Paganella plateau (Trentino): Andalo, Fai della Paganella, Molveno, Cavedago, and Spormaggiore, in addition to events in the Piana Rotaliana Königsberg. Venues vary depending on the event: squares, libraries, parish theaters, the Palacongressi in Andalo and Molveno, and the Arena delle Stelle in Fai della Paganella.
Andalo can be reached by car from the San Michele all'Adige-Mezzocorona motorway exit (A22 Brenner Motorway) by driving up toward the Paganella plateau, or from Trento. The nearest train station is Trento, which is connected by bus lines to the Paganella area.
Many meetings are free to attend; some performances, such as the one by Paolo Ruffini at the Palacongressi in Andalo, require tickets that can be purchased online. For dates, times, and reservations, it is recommended to check the official website mountainfuturestories.it and the Visit Dolomiti Paganella information points.
