A full weekend of running in the heart of Trento, featuring the historic Giro al Sas and the Trento Half Marathon.
The Trento Running Festival is a major running event that brings the historic center of Trento, the capital of Trentino-Alto Adige, to life for an entire weekend. Created to unite the city's most beloved races under one banner, the festival features the historic Giro al Sas, the Trento Half Marathon, and the 10 km Città del Concilio, alongside a rich program of races for children, families, and master categories. The event is organized by A.S.D. Città di Trento.
The most famous race is the Giro al Sas, a nighttime road race held in the historic center of Trento. Its origins date back to 1907, when a committee of sports enthusiasts organized a race through the city streets to celebrate Saint Vigilius, the city's patron saint. The name comes from the characteristic loop course through the main streets of the center. Over the decades, the Giro al Sas has hosted the greatest names in world athletics and has been awarded the World Athletics Heritage Plaque, a recognition reserved for events that have shaped the history of the sport. The race winds for about 10 kilometers between Piazza Duomo, Via Garibaldi, Piazza Vittoria, Piazza Erbe, Largo Carducci, and Via Belenzani, offering the public a unique spectacle among the frescoed buildings of the center.
Sunday is dedicated to the Trento Half Marathon, a FIDAL-certified course that crosses the entire city with minimal elevation gain, passing through the Le Albere district, the Buonconsiglio Castle, and the historic center, with the finish line in Piazza Duomo. Alongside the half marathon, the 10 km Città del Concilio offers a more accessible distance, ideal for those who want to experience the race atmosphere without tackling 21 kilometers.
The Trento Running Festival has a strong inclusive character: in addition to the competitive races, the program includes the Giro al Sas Kids for the little ones and the Happy Family Run, a non-competitive race designed for families. Every year, the event records significant numbers, both in terms of overall participation and the presence of international athletes, confirming Trento as one of Italy's late-summer running capitals.
Running in the center of Trento means crossing centuries of history: from the Cathedral of Saint Vigilius to the Renaissance squares, from the frescoed palaces to the Buonconsiglio Castle. The event is an opportunity to discover the capital of Trentino-Alto Adige by combining sport, culture, and the urban landscape.
The event returns on Saturday, September 26, and Sunday, September 27, 2026, in the historic center of Trento. Saturday is dedicated to the 79th Giro al Sas: in the afternoon, the Giro al Sas Kids and master category events take place, followed by the international elite race on the 10 km city circuit in the evening. On Sunday, the Trento Half Marathon and the 10 km Città del Concilio will be held, with the participation of top runners and thousands of amateur athletes.
The detailed program with schedules, final routes, and start lists will be published by A.S.D. Città di Trento in the months leading up to the race. Registration opens on February 1, 2026, on the official website.
