Trento, the world capital of sport: featuring champions, talks, and live events
The Festival of Sport is the annual autumn event that transforms Trento, the capital of the Trentino-Alto Adige region, into the world capital of sport. Born in 2018 from an idea by La Gazzetta dello Sport and Trentino Marketing, the Festival brings the greatest champions, coaches, and icons of Italian and international sport to the city to share their stories with the public through talks, interviews, meetings, and special events hosted by Gazzetta's top journalists.
For four days, the streets, squares, theaters, historic palaces, museums, and courtyards of Trento's city center become the stage for over 150 events, almost all of which are free to attend. It is a unique opportunity to get up close with athletes usually seen only on television, hear their stories of struggle and victory, and experience sport in its most authentic and human dimension.
The Festival of Sport is a city-wide event that involves the most beautiful and iconic locations in the capital: from theaters and historic squares to city palaces and museums. The format combines major talks with sports stars, moments dedicated to young people and schools, sports camps, exhibitions, and screenings. The 2025 edition recorded approximately 55,000 attendees, confirming the Festival as one of the most popular sports and cultural events in Italy.
The event takes place in the Autonomous Province of Trento with the support of the Municipality of Trento, the University of Trento, and the Tourist Board, and under the patronage of CONI and the Italian Paralympic Committee. It is a project that combines a passion for sport with the promotion of the Trentino region and its excellence.
Whether you are a fan of football, skiing, athletics, cycling, volleyball, or tennis, at the Festival of Sport you will find your idols and their stories. Past editions have featured legends such as Alberto Tomba, Sofia Goggia, Federica Brignone, Gianmarco Tamberi, Julio Velasco, and many others. It is an autumn weekend to experience in Trento, amidst sporting emotions, culture, and the beauty of a human-scale city nestled in the Dolomites.
From October 1st to 4th, 2026, Trento hosts the ninth edition of the Festival of Sport, under the title "Invincibles". As per tradition, the historic center of the Trentino capital transforms into a large, widespread stage with talks, interviews, and live events in theaters, squares, and historic palaces. The 2026 edition has been brought forward by one week compared to the usual schedule to adapt to the new international sports calendars.
The detailed program with the names of the guest champions and the times of individual appointments will be revealed in the weeks leading up to the event: the first previews are expected at the presentation conference. Based on recent editions, over 150 appointments and more than 300 protagonists of Italian and international sport are expected.
The Festival takes place in the historic center of Trento, which is easily accessible on foot. The Trento train station is connected to major Italian cities on the Brenner line; by car, take the Trento Centro or Trento Nord exit from the A22 Brenner motorway.
Most events are free to attend, often with mandatory online booking for meetings held in theaters and indoor spaces. It is recommended to check the official website to book as soon as slots become available, given the high number of participants.
