About Pescofest

Pescofest is the festival that the Pro Loco of Pescosolido dedicates to its local area: a full day starting at dawn with trekking in the Vallone Lacerno, continuing with a walk through vineyards and olive groves, and opening up to food and wine stands featuring typical Ciociaria dishes. The afternoon is reserved for families, with free workshops on cheesemaking and the world of bees, as well as entertainment for the little ones. A simple and authentic way to discover a village in the province of Frosinone.

A Ciociaria village that tells its story in a single day

Pescosolido is a small town in the province of Frosinone, in the Lazio region, nestled on the slopes of the mountains that enclose the Comino Valley and overlooking the Vallone Lacerno, one of the most evocative natural gorges in the entire Ciociaria region. It is precisely from this heritage of water, rock, and woodland that Pescofest was born, the event with which the Pro Loco Pescosolido invites residents and visitors to rediscover the village in a single day, from dawn until dusk.

From the first light of day to the food stands

The festival's format is unique and sets it apart from the many local food festivals in the area: it doesn't start at noon, but in the early hours of the morning. The trekking to Vallone Lacerno begins before the sun is high, to cross the gorges during the coolest and quietest time of day; a little later, a walk through the vineyards and olive groves accompanies participants along the terraces surrounding the town, where olives and wine grapes are still cultivated using techniques passed down from generation to generation.

By midday, the focus shifts to the historic centre, in the Via Portella area, where the food and wine stands open. Here, Ciociaria cuisine is presented without filters: handmade pasta, grilled meats, locally produced cheeses, extra virgin olive oil, and local wines. The public eats outdoors, among the alleys and small squares of the village, in an atmosphere of a local village feast rather than a tourist event.

An afternoon for children

Pescofest reserves an important part of the programme for families. In the afternoon, free workshops designed for children are held: one dedicated to cheesemaking, to understand how milk becomes cheese, and one on the world of bees, with stories about the hive and the beekeeper's work. The children's day ends with the Pirate Bubble Show, the pirate-themed soap bubble performance that has become one of the most anticipated moments of the event.

A recently born festival, already a symbol of identity

Pescofest is a young event: the first editions were held in the spring of previous years, before the Pro Loco chose to permanently link it to June 2nd, the Republic Day. The choice is not accidental: the long weekend at the beginning of June brings those who have emigrated elsewhere back to the village and allows the festival to become a moment of homecoming, as well as a warm welcome for outside visitors.

Why it's worth the trip

  • The Vallone Lacerno, a gorge carved by the stream of the same name, is listed among the most beautiful natural sites in the Frosinone area.
  • The gastronomy offered is the authentic cuisine of Ciociaria, cooked by local volunteers rather than external vendors.
  • Outdoor activities and workshops are free: you only pay for what you consume at the stands.
  • The day is designed to be complete: sport in the morning, dining at lunch, and entertainment in the afternoon.

The context: Pescosolido and the Comino Valley

Those arriving for Pescofest can easily extend their visit to the surroundings. Pescosolido is located a few kilometres from Sora and at the gates of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park, in an area where stone villages, springs, and mountain trails coexist with a still-vibrant agricultural tradition. It is the lesser-known Lazio, far from the circuits of Rome, and the Pro Loco festival is perhaps the best introduction to it.

Pescofest — edition 2026

The third edition of Pescofest took place on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, in Pescosolido, on the occasion of the Republic Day. A full day organised by the Pro Loco, starting at dawn with trekking in the Vallone Lacerno and ending in the afternoon with children's workshops and a soap bubble show, featuring stands with typical Ciociaria products.

Pescofest 2026: the third edition

For its third edition, Pescofest confirmed its placement on Republic Day, June 2nd. The Pro Loco Pescosolido built a programme that covered the entire day, alternating outdoor activities, gastronomy, and entertainment for families in the historic centre of the village, in the province of Frosinone.

The opening moment was the trekking at dawn in the Vallone Lacerno, followed by a walk through vineyards and olive groves. From 12:00 PM, food and wine stands opened with specialties from the Ciociaria land, while the afternoon was dedicated to the little ones with free workshops on cheesemaking and the world of bees, leading up to the final Pirate Bubble Show. Participation in the activities was free.
