About Orecchiette Festival

In the heart of the Subappennino Dauno, the Orecchiette Festival in Deliceto celebrates Puglia's iconic dish every summer. Along Corso Margherita, local housewives hand-roll orecchiette and fusilli before the public, served with fresh tomato, basil, and cacio cheese, or the classic turnip tops. Organized by the Pro Loco "A. Iossa," the event combines tastings, local wine, traditional sweets, music, and children's entertainment in an evening of authentic village cheer.

The festival celebrating the queen of Apulian cuisine

The Orecchiette Festival is one of the most beloved summer events in Deliceto, a small village in the Subappennino Dauno in the province of Foggia, in the heart of Puglia. For over forty years, traditionally held on the first Sunday of August, the historic center comes alive to pay homage to the dish that represents Apulian gastronomic identity more than any other: the orecchietta.

The housewives and handmade pasta

The heart of the festival is the live preparation. Along Corso Margherita, transformed for the occasion into a true gallery of taste, local housewives hand-roll orecchiette and fusilli, passing down ancient techniques before the eyes of visitors arriving from across the province. It is a spectacle that combines flavor and memory, where the manual skill of the village women becomes the true star of the evening.

What to taste

The orecchiette are served in various local traditional styles:

  • Orecchiette with fresh tomato, basil, and grated cacio cheese
  • Orecchiette with turnip tops, the most typical Apulian condiment
  • Variations with meat sauce and braciole ragรน
  • Rustic main courses of village cuisine
  • Typical Apulian sweets such as cartellate and mostaccioli
  • Local red wine from the Subappennino Dauno

Music, folklore, and entertainment

The festival is not just about gastronomy. After the tastings begin, the evening continues with musical entertainment, folk performances, and craft stalls. Plenty of space is also dedicated to the little ones, with inflatables, games, and entertainment, making the festival a moment truly for the whole family.

Organization and tradition

The event is organized by the Pro Loco "A. Iossa" Tourist Association in collaboration with the Municipality of Deliceto. Born in the late seventies, the festival has grown to become one of the highlights of the Deliceto summer, capable of attracting thousands of people in search of genuine village cuisine and the convivial atmosphere that characterizes Southern Italian village festivals.

Deliceto, a village to discover

Visiting the festival is also an opportunity to discover Deliceto, a village dominated by the Norman-Swabian castle and surrounded by the woods of the Subappennino Dauno. Among alleys, underground chambers, and panoramic views, the town offers visitors a dive into the most authentic and less touristy Puglia, where tradition, hospitality, and good food remain the values of old.

Orecchiette Festival โ€” edition 2026

The 49th edition of the Orecchiette Festival in Deliceto is expected for summer 2026. Official dates have not yet been announced by the Pro Loco "A. Iossa": traditionally, the festival is held on the first Sunday of August along Corso Margherita, featuring handmade orecchiette and fusilli, tastings, music, and children's entertainment. The detailed program will be communicated by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.

The Orecchiette Festival in Deliceto will return in summer 2026 for its 49th edition, confirming an appointment that has celebrated the iconic pasta of Puglia along Corso Margherita for decades. At the moment, the official dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the Pro Loco "A. Iossa," which traditionally chooses the first Sunday of August.
