The Monti Dauni village that transforms into an open-air Christmas wonderland every winter
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
During the holiday season, Candela, a small town in the Monti Dauni area of the province of Foggia, transforms into a true Christmas village. The 'Candela, the Christmas Village' event, organized by the APS Candela Promozione association, brings the historic center to life from late November to Epiphany, drawing thousands of visitors each year not only from Puglia but also from Abruzzo, Calabria, Campania, and Sicily.
The heart of the event is Santa's House, set up in the halls of Palazzo Ripandelli, where children can meet Santa Claus and explore themed rooms. Surrounding it is a path filled with installations: the toy museum featuring a Lego exhibition, the nativity scene square, the enchanted garden, and a nativity art exhibition.
Among the most unique experiences is the Animated Village, a theatrical tour of the historic center that guides visitors through evocative corners, leading to the famous Trasonna, one of the narrowest alleys in Italy. Actors, costumed performers, and street artists turn the walk into a living story that celebrates the village's identity.
Over the years, 'Candela, the Christmas Village' has grown into one of the main tourist destinations in Puglia during the holiday season. The event, reaching its twelfth edition in 2025, represents a vital promotional opportunity for the Municipality of Candela and the entire Monti Dauni area, an inland territory of Puglia that gains new visibility and economic vitality through this initiative.
The event typically runs from late November until January 6th, the day of the Epiphany, traditionally closed by the Befana Flight. The main opening hours are concentrated on weekends and holidays, when the village reaches its most magical atmosphere.
The dates and program for the 2026 edition (Christmas 2026) of 'Candela, the Christmas Village' have not yet been announced. The APS Candela Promozione, through its president Davide Diglio, has confirmed the desire to repeat and expand the event in the village of Candela, in the Monti Dauni area of the province of Foggia. Historically, the festival takes place between late November and January 6th: to find out dates, times, and attractions, it is recommended to follow the official event channels.
Candela is located in the northwestern part of Puglia, in the province of Foggia, near the border with Campania and Basilicata. By car, it is easily accessible from the A16 Naples-Canosa motorway (Candela exit) and the A14. The reference railway stations are Cerignola and Foggia, with onward travel by bus or car.
Access to the village and markets is generally free; some attractions, such as Santa's House, may have dedicated hours. It is recommended to check times and details on the event's official channels.
The period with the highest turnout is close to the holidays: it is advisable to arrive early and wear warm clothing, given the winter climate of the Monti Dauni.
