The historic Orbassano Carnival featuring the Polentè and Polentera masks
The Orbassano Carnival is one of the most cherished traditions in this municipality within the Metropolitan City of Turin, in the heart of Piedmont. For generations, the event has enlivened the town center with vibrant colors, cheerful sounds, and a festive atmosphere that engages the entire community, turning the squares into a grand open-air stage.
The symbolic heart of the festival lies in the historic Polentè and Polentera masks, the traditional figures who embody the spirit of Orbassano. Following tradition, the two characters receive the symbolic keys to the city from the Mayor, officially kicking off the festivities. Their investiture is accompanied by the Majorettes Group, the Orbassano City Band, and local historical groups, including the Popular Mutual Aid Society, the Ladies and Knights Association, and the Pro Loco, the true driving forces behind the event.
The most anticipated moment is the night parade of allegorical floats, which illuminates Piazza della Pace with spectacular creations built by masked groups from the local area and neighboring provinces. The parade is accompanied by a competition that rewards the most beautiful and original floats, culminating in the announcement of the winners and an evening filled with music, confetti, and fun.
The program spans three days packed with events:
Beyond the parades, the Orbassano Carnival is also an opportunity to savor local flavors thanks to the dedicated street food area and typical products, all set within a festive framework that blends popular tradition, folklore, and conviviality. An unmissable appointment for those wanting to experience the Piedmontese Carnival in an authentic way, just a few kilometers from Turin.
