Special openings and guided tours of the FAI Castello della Manta
The Castello della Manta is one of the most beloved properties of the FAI (National Trust of Italy) and an unmissable stop for anyone visiting the province of Cuneo. Perched on a hill overlooking the village of Manta in Piedmont, this castle originated in the 13th century as a fortress and was transformed in the 15th century by Count Valerano of Saluzzo into a refined noble residence. The Castelli Aperti festival, which celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2026 with the special edition "All the Colors of Culture," is the perfect opportunity to discover it.
The heart of the castle is the famous Baronial Hall, decorated with an exceptional cycle of late-Gothic frescoes: the evocative Fountain of Youth and the gallery of the Nine Worthies and Nine Heroines, masterpieces of early 15th-century courtly painting. Visitors can also explore the Hall of Grotesques, the castle church, and the panoramic park, which offers sweeping views of the Saluzzo plains and the Alpine arc.
During the festival, the Castello della Manta participates with special openings on weekends and public holidays, accompanied by guided tours that delve into the history of the Saluzzo-Manta family and its artistic treasures. Tours are also available in foreign languages upon reservation, and an audio guide service is provided.
The festival is promoted by the 'Associazione Amici di Castelli Aperti' and brings together dozens of castles, villas, and historic villages in Piedmont, open to the public from spring to autumn with a busy calendar of events. Visiting the Castello della Manta means becoming part of this grand itinerary through the region's historic homes, blending art, landscape, and tradition.
The Castello della Manta is located at Via De Rege Thesauro, 3, in Manta (CN), just a few kilometers from Saluzzo. By car, it can be reached via the A6 Turin-Savona motorway (Marene exit) or the main road to Saluzzo; ample parking is available nearby.
Openings follow the FAI seasonal calendar (generally Wednesday to Sunday and public holidays). During the Castelli Aperti events in late May and early June, hours are 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
Full price €11, reduced (6-25 years) €4, free for children 0-5, local residents, and FAI members. Admission with guided tour €15 (reduced €8). Booking is recommended for guided tours.
