The Living Nativity of Costigliole Saluzzo is one of the most beloved Christmas events in the Saluzzo area, in the heart of the province of Cuneo, in Piedmont. Each edition turns the town's historic center into a large open-air nativity scene: the cobblestone streets, courtyards, and the churchyard of the Santa Maria Maddalena Parish Church become the natural stage for a performance that blends faith, theater, and local heritage.
A choral performance
The event is structured as a true open-air theater: the audience follows the birth of Jesus through a series of scenic tableaux brought to life by costumed performers. Recent editions have featured over 170 characters, including shepherds, artisans, commoners, and Nativity figures, creating a journey that involves the entire community of Costigliole. Ancient workshops and trades, lit fires, and scenes of daily life from the past all contribute to recreating the atmosphere of traditional Piedmontese peasant life.
A history spanning decades
The origins of the event date back to 1983: since then, the Living Nativity has grown to become a defining appointment for Costigliole Saluzzo, organized by the Amici del Presepe association with the support of the Municipality and local volunteers. After a few years of suspension, the event has returned to fill the village, confirming the strength of a tradition that continues to unite the creativity and energy of the entire town.

Per l'edizione 2026 è confermato il ritorno del Presepe Vivente di Costigliole Saluzzo nel calendario natalizio del Comune. Le amministrazioni e gli organizzatori hanno lavorato sul centro storico, con la riqualificazione della piazzetta della chiesa parrocchiale, per preservare e migliorare l'impatto scenografico della rappresentazione.
Come nelle edizioni precedenti, l'evento si svolgerà nel borgo antico, con i quadri viventi della Natività animati dai figuranti in costume.
