Art-house films under the stars in the courtyard of Palazzo Traversa
When summer arrives in Bra, the cinema leaves the theaters and moves outdoors to the charming courtyard of Palazzo Traversa, located at Via Parpera 4. The Open-Air Cinema series, organized by the Culture and Events Office of the Municipality of Bra, is one of the most beloved summer traditions in the city: every Thursday evening from late June to mid-August, the historic courtyard fills with chairs and spectators eager to watch the most significant films of the season.
The setting is one of the most fascinating buildings in the historic center of Bra, a city in the heart of the Roero region, in the province of Cuneo. Palazzo Traversa houses the Museum of Art, History, and Archaeology and is a cultural destination in its own right; seeing it transform into a summer arena under the Piedmont sky gives the evenings a unique atmosphere. Screenings begin at 9:30 PM and admission costs just 3 euros, with booking recommended due to limited seating. In case of rain, events are moved to the "G. Arpino" Auditorium.
One of the highlights of the series is the "Cinema and Museum" project: before select screenings, from 8:30 PM to 9:15 PM, visitors can participate in short, themed guided tours of the Palazzo Traversa Museum collections. It is a clever way to combine the discovery of local heritage with the pleasure of a night at the movies, promoting both the museum and the film series.
The program focuses on quality: Italian and international art-house films, comedies, documentaries, and animated features, often selected from the most awarded works of the year. There are also special free-admission events dedicated to themes dear to the city—such as Slow Food, a movement born right here in Bra. It is the perfect opportunity to enjoy summer evenings outdoors, blending culture and great cinema in the center of one of Piedmont's most vibrant towns.
