Wine, seafood, and live music in the medieval cloister of Suvereto
As June draws to a close, the medieval village of Suvereto, in the Val di Cornia near Livorno, lights up its evenings with Note di Vermentino, a food, wine, and music festival dedicated to the white wine that symbolizes this corner of Tuscany. The heart of the event is the evocative Chiostro di San Francesco, a former convent complex that, for the occasion, is bathed in soft lighting and filled with live melodies, offering residents and visitors an atmosphere suspended in time.
The common thread of these evenings is Vermentino, a wine with fresh, aromatic notes that perfectly expresses the character of the Tuscan coastal territory. Numerous labels from the wineries of Suvereto and the Val di Cornia are available for tasting, often presented by the producers themselves: an opportunity to discover the variety of this white wine, from its Mediterranean scents to its more mineral nuances, and to understand how deeply the wine is tied to the identity of this stretch of coast between Piombino and the Maremma.
Vermentino is at its best when paired with food, which is why Note di Vermentino offers seafood dinners and aperitifs designed to highlight the marriage between this white wine and the flavors of the sea. Mussel soups, shellfish, fried calamari and cuttlefish, and other traditional maritime dishes accompany the glasses, with pairings carefully curated to showcase the area's typical products. Restaurants and shops in the historic center remain open, extending the festivities through the village alleys.
Each evening is punctuated by live music: jazz, swing, soul, and singer-songwriter sounds resonate through the cloister's arches, creating the ideal setting for a romantic dinner or a toast with friends. Over the years, the event has hosted various ensembles and soloists, always with a special focus on genres that harmonize with the elegance of the venue and the wine.
Note di Vermentino is organized by the Ente Valorizzazione Suvereto with the patronage of the Municipality of Suvereto and is one of the most anticipated stops on the village's rich summer calendar, as it is one of the "Most Beautiful Villages in Italy" and a Cittaslow town. Visiting during the event means combining the discovery of historical heritageโthe cloister, the Rocca Aldobrandesca, the stone alleysโwith the pleasure of authentic food and wine in one of Tuscany's most interesting wine-growing areas.
The dates for the 2026 edition of Note di Vermentino are confirmed in the Municipality of Suvereto's event calendar: the festival will take place from Friday, June 19 to Sunday, June 21, 2026, as usual in the evocative Chiostro di San Francesco and the village's historic center.
This year's program will once again feature tastings of local Vermentino wines, seafood dinners and aperitifs, and live music evenings, in the style that has characterized the festival since its inception.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including the musical line-up and the tasting schedule, will be announced by the Ente Valorizzazione Suvereto in the weeks leading up to the event. Based on past editions, the three evenings will feature the opening of the Chiostro di San Francesco around 8:00 PM, with tastings of Val di Cornia Vermentino, seafood dinners, and live music (jazz, swing, and singer-songwriter styles). Restaurants and shops in the historic center will remain open for the duration of the event.
