The traveling literary festival bringing books to the squares of Elba Island
Storie Itineranti in Piazza is the traveling literary festival that, every summer, brings life to the squares of Campo nell'Elba and nearby coastal towns in the province of Livorno, in the heart of the Tuscan archipelago. Now in its fourth edition in 2026, the festival transforms public spaces on Elba Island—squares, promenades, beaches, and church courtyards—into open-air literary salons, where reading is not a luxury for the few, but a common good to be shared.
For over twenty events scheduled between June and September, Italian writers visit the island to present their books, engage with the public, and perform live readings. The evenings range from coming-of-age novels to noir, from non-fiction to narrative, in a packed calendar that accompanies residents and tourists throughout the summer season. The format is informal and direct, typical of a town square gathering, often followed by an aperitif or a convivial moment.
Storie Itineranti in Piazza was born from the collaboration between the Libreria Libri in Piazza, the Balestrini Gentini Municipal Library, and the Isolachelegge reading group, with the support of the Municipalities of Campo nell'Elba and Marciana Marina and local Pro Loco associations. Events take place in various locations: Piazza da Verrazzano in Marina di Campo, the Church of San Nicolò in San Piero, the Piazzale del Cotone and the Municipal Library in Marciana Marina, as well as several evenings on the island's beaches.
For those spending their holidays on Elba Island, Storie Itineranti in Piazza is the perfect opportunity to combine the pleasure of reading with the summer atmosphere of the Elban seaside villages, in a festival that has successfully rooted itself in the territory of the Municipality of Campo nell'Elba and the entire island.
The 2026 edition of Storie Itineranti in Piazza, the fourth of the festival, unfolds throughout the summer with over twenty meetings between Campo nell'Elba and neighboring towns. The calendar, rich in presentations and readings, confirms the traveling formula that brings authors to the squares, promenades, and beaches of Elba Island. All events are free and generally begin at 9:30 PM.
Between June and September, the festival continues with other appointments announced progressively: the writer Pat Villa is also among the expected authors. The complete calendar is updated weekly on the organizers' channels and in the local press.
