Canederli like you've never tasted them before, in the heart of Badia
Nos dales bales is the food and wine event that transforms the center of Badia, in the heart of Alta Badia, into a grand tasting trail every summer. It is dedicated to the canederlo (known as Knödel in German), the most famous dish in South Tyrol and a symbol of Ladin cuisine. The event's name is in Ladin, the historic language of the Dolomite valleys.
The evening takes place along Str. San Linert, the main street of Badia, which is closed to traffic for the occasion and decorated with candles and torches. The majestic church of San Leonardo provides a picturesque backdrop for the event, which begins in the late afternoon and continues in a cozy, convivial atmosphere amidst the soft lights of the historic center.
Local hotels, restaurants, and pastry shops each offer their own version of the canederlo: the selection ranges from traditional recipes—spinach, speck, or cheese dumplings—to creative interpretations and sweet variants, allowing visitors to savor the surprising versatility of this dish. Previous editions have featured establishments such as Hotel Gran Ander, Hotel Melodia del Bosco, Hotel Cavallino, Naturhotel Miraval, Pensione Rungg, Residence Lersc, Albergo San Leonardo, Hotel Serena, and the I dolci di Ricky pastry shop. The bales are served with various sauces and toppings, accompanied by live music and excellent South Tyrolean wines.
Nos dales bales is part of the rich summer food and wine calendar of Alta Badia, which celebrates Ladin tradition, historic recipes, and the valley's unique flavors. The event is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture and rural life of the Dolomites, enjoying an ancient, humble dish that has become an icon of South Tyrolean gastronomy in an open-air setting.
The event is held in the Municipality of Badia (Badia/Abtei), in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. Badia is one of the Ladin municipalities of Alta Badia, a Dolomite area renowned for its peaks, Ladin cultural heritage, and excellent culinary tradition.
