Authentic Nebrodi flavors in Cesarò
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Nebrodi Black Pig and Porcini Mushroom Festival is one of the most beloved food and wine events of the Sicilian autumn. It takes place in Cesarò, a small mountain town in the Province of Messina and one of the highest settlements in the Nebrodi range, located within the regional park of the same name. Every November, the village welcomes thousands of visitors for two weekends dedicated to the most iconic products of these lands.
The heart of the event is the Nebrodi black pig, an ancient native breed officially recognized in 2001, raised free-range in the park's forests. Its meat, with its characteristic ruby-red color and intense aroma, is the basis for traditional cured meats, roasts, and rustic dishes. Alongside the pork, the Nebrodi porcini mushroom, harvested in the high-altitude beech and oak forests, adds its distinct fragrance to the recipes served at the numerous food stalls.
Along the streets of the historic center—from Villa Aldo Moro to Corso Margherita, from Piazza San Calogero to Via Castello—you will find tastings, cooking demonstrations, culinary workshops, and markets featuring local products. There is no shortage of local cheeses like pecorino and provola, as well as honey, olive oil, and artisanal sweets.
The festival is more than just gastronomy: Cesarò's location, at over a thousand meters above sea level, makes it an ideal starting point for trekking and nature excursions through the park's beech forests, lakes, and trails. The event showcases the entire Nebrodi region, weaving together rural culture, landscapes, and the island's finest products.
Organized by the Municipality of Cesarò, the festival offers free admission and represents a unique opportunity to discover the authenticity of the Nebrodi area, far from the most beaten tourist paths. A journey into the flavors, scents, and traditions of one of the island's most evocative mountain regions.
The dates for the 2026 edition of the Nebrodi Black Pig and Porcini Mushroom Festival have not yet been officially announced by the Municipality of Cesarò. Based on previous editions, the event is expected to take place in November, throughout the streets of the historic center.
The program will likely follow the established format: food stalls dedicated to Nebrodi black pork and porcini mushrooms, cooking demonstrations, local product markets, Sicilian music and folklore, as well as excursions in the Nebrodi Park forests. For definitive dates and the program, please refer to the official channels of the Municipality of Cesarò.
Cesarò is located in the heart of the Nebrodi Park, in the Province of Messina. By car, it can be reached via the SS120 (A18/A20 motorway exit depending on your direction, followed by mountain roads). The nearest airports are Catania-Fontanarossa and Palermo-Punta Raisi, both about a two-hour drive away.
Admission to the festival is free. Stalls are generally open from midday or morning until evening during the event days.
We recommend comfortable, warm clothing (Cesarò is in the high mountains) and suitable footwear for any forest excursions. For updated information, please contact the Municipality of Cesarò.
