The green gold fair on the slopes of Mount Etna
The Adrano Olive Oil Festival is a new food and wine event held in the municipality of Adrano, in the province of Catania, at the foot of Mount Etna. Known as the "Gateway to Etna," Adrano is located in an area deeply tied to olive cultivation, and the festival was created specifically to celebrate and promote this ancient agricultural heritage. It is a true trade fair entirely dedicated to olives, olive oil, and all processed products from the olive supply chain.
Adrano falls within the production area of the Monte Etna PDO extra virgin olive oil, recognized by the European Union in 2003, which covers the Etna municipalities in the provinces of Catania, Enna, and Messina. The connection to the territory is expressed in the native Nocellara Etnea cultivar, which produces an oil with a golden yellow color and green highlights, characterized by a light fruity flavor and delicate bitter and spicy notes. The volcanic soil, rich in minerals, gives this oil unique organoleptic characteristics impossible to reproduce elsewhere.
The Olive Oil Festival is not just a market: the goal is to create a true culture around the olive oil supply chain. The program includes:
The event is organized by the Adrano municipal administration, led by Mayor Fabio Mancuso, and has received funding of approximately 39,600 euros from the Regional Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Mediterranean Fisheries. The Councilor for Economic Development, Luigi Cancelliere, emphasized the strategic importance of this first edition for the economy and identity of the territory: the festival aims to make Adrano a hub for producers, industry experts, and visitors, stimulating local economic development, seasonal tourism, and networking among businesses in the supply chain.
The Olive Oil Festival will be held in October 2026, a period that coincides with the start of the olive harvest and milling season. The exact dates and detailed program have not yet been announced by the Municipality of Adrano: they will be communicated in the weeks leading up to the event through the municipal administration's official channels.
