The Nebrodi porcini mushroom takes center stage in the heart of the village of Alcara li Fusi
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Nebrodi Porcini Mushroom Festival is the most anticipated autumn event in Alcara li Fusi, a small town in the province of Messina nestled between the imposing Rocche del Crasto in the heart of the Nebrodi Park. Organized by the Pro Loco Akaret APS with the support of the local municipality, the event highlights the porcini mushroom that grows wild in the beech and holm oak forests of the Nebrodi mountains—a true treasure of local cuisine.
For an entire day, the medieval village, with its narrow streets and ancient churches, comes alive with food stalls where visitors can savor appetizers, pasta dishes, main courses, and side dishes prepared with porcini: from mushroom pasta to traditional Nebrodi peasant specialties. Tastings are accompanied by local wines and typical products, all within an atmosphere of popular celebration and conviviality.
The festival is also an opportunity to discover Alcara li Fusi and its heritage. Recurring activities include:
Alcara li Fusi, whose name has Arabic origins, is one of the most characteristic centers of the Nebrodi region: from the Rocche del Crasto—where griffon vultures soar—to the springs of the Rosmarino River, and from the medieval historic center to ancient traditions like the famous Festa del Muzzuni. The Porcini Mushroom Festival is the ideal time to discover this corner of Sicily and its authentic mountain flavors.
The dates for the 2026 edition of the Nebrodi Porcini Mushroom Festival have not yet been announced. The event, organized by Pro Loco Akaret in Alcara li Fusi, is usually held in October in the village's historic center. The detailed program (food stalls, guided tours, mycological table, children's area, and live music) will be communicated by the organizers closer to the event.
The festival takes place in the historic center of Alcara li Fusi (ME), among the squares and alleys of the village, at the foot of the Rocche del Crasto in the Nebrodi Park.
By car: take the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway, exit at Sant'Agata di Militello, then follow the inland road towards the Nebrodi mountains (approximately 25 km of scenic uphill driving). The nearest train station is Sant'Agata di Militello, on the Tyrrhenian line.
We recommend wearing comfortable clothing for walking the village's uphill alleys and bringing a jacket for the evening, given the mountain altitude. Admission is free; tastings are paid for at the individual stalls.
