Colliano's black truffle: the star of autumn in the Sele Valley
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The National Exhibition and Market of Truffles and Local Typical Products is the most anticipated autumn event in Colliano, a small town in the Province of Salerno, Campania. Every year, in the second ten days of October, the village—perched at an altitude of about 630 meters on the slopes of Monte Marzano overlooking the Sele Valley—fills with stalls, aromas, and visitors from all over Italy for its signature product: the black truffle. This is not just a simple village festival, but a true national-level fair that has been connecting truffle hunters, producers, restaurateurs, and enthusiasts for nearly thirty years.
The event is organized by the Pro Loco Colliano APS Association with the patronage of the Municipality of Colliano and the collaboration of the local Civil Protection. Established in the late nineties, the event has grown edition after edition—with only a brief interruption due to the health emergency—reaching its twenty-eighth edition in 2025, spread over four days. Colliano is also part of the Cities of the Truffle circuit, a recognition that confirms the value of the local truffle far beyond regional borders.
The heart of the event is Piazza Epifani, with stands extending along the historic center and Viale Terlizzi. The established format combines market, culture, and conviviality:
The black truffle of Colliano grows in the oak and turkey oak forests covering the slopes of Monte Marzano, in an environment still largely untouched where harvesting is a craft handed down from father to son. The fair was created precisely to give this heritage a permanent showcase, capable of supporting the economy of a town of a few thousand inhabitants and curbing the depopulation of Campania's inland areas. The entire local autumn cuisine revolves around this tuber: fresh pasta, eggs, meats, cheeses, and preserves, which can be tasted during the fair days in the refreshment area set up by Pro Loco volunteers.
Those arriving in Colliano during these days will find a village in celebration: the streets of the historic center illuminated, the chatter of the stalls, the elders recounting the good and bad years, and children engaged in games organized in the square. It is a family-friendly and accessible event that has managed to attract thousands of visitors over the years without losing the authentic dimension of a village festival. For many people from Salerno and Campania, it represents the appointment that officially opens the truffle season.
At the time of writing (July 2026), the Pro Loco Colliano has not yet released the official dates for the 2026 edition. However, the history of the event places the appointment with great regularity in the second ten days of October: the 2025 edition took place from October 9th to 12th, and the 2023 edition from October 6th to 8th. We recommend checking the official channels of the Pro Loco Colliano and the Municipality of Colliano before planning your trip, as dates and programs are usually announced only a few weeks before the event.
Official dates for the 2026 edition of the National Exhibition and Market of Truffles and Local Typical Products in Colliano, in the Province of Salerno, have not yet been published. However, the event is one of the longest-running in the Sele Valley and has been repeated regularly for nearly thirty years, always in the second ten days of October, when the local black truffle reaches its peak season.
The Pro Loco Colliano APS usually announces the program a few weeks before the event through its social media pages and the channels of the Municipality of Colliano. Until then, it is not possible to indicate the specific days or the details of the initiatives: those intending to participate are invited to monitor official updates before booking.
What can reasonably be expected, based on previous editions, is the established format of the fair: exhibition and sale of black truffles and local typical products, a covered tasting area with traditional dishes, crafts, conferences, taste workshops, live music, and children's games in Piazza Epifani.
Piazza Epifani and the historic center of Colliano (SA), with stands also along Viale Terlizzi. Municipality of Colliano, Viale dott. Andrea Terlizzi 15, 84020 Colliano (SA).
Access to the exhibition and market area is traditionally free; tastings, dishes in the refreshment area, and purchases at the stands are paid. In past editions, a camper area was set up for visitors.
Colliano is located at an altitude of about 630 meters: in October, evenings can be cool, so it is best to bring appropriate clothing. The streets of the historic center are sloping and partly paved, so comfortable shoes are recommended.
