A guided narrative hike along the panoramic castle trail, through the Barolo vineyards in the heart of the Langhe
The Narrative Trekking between Roddi, Verduno and the La Morra area is a guided excursion that takes you on foot through one of Italy's most celebrated landscapes: the wine-growing hills of the Langhe, in the Province of Cuneo, in the heart of Piedmont. Starting from the village of Roddi, the route winds along the so-called panoramic castle trail, where every village tells ancient stories of feudal lords, towers, and noble residences.
The itinerary, spanning approximately 14 kilometers with an elevation gain of just over 450 meters, connects Roddi to Verduno, passing through scenic ridges, orderly vineyards, and wooded stretches. You will cross the famous Barolo vineyards, part of the Piedmont wine landscape recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. In Verduno, you will reach the viewpoint of the historic center, where a medieval castle once stood, later replaced by the current Baroque-style building. On the way back to Roddi, you will follow the Nature Trail, which crosses the area's natural truffle grounds and quiet dirt roads among the vines.
More than just a simple walk, this is an experience of slow discovery: the guide accompanies the group, explaining the territory through its landscape, naturalistic, geological, and historical aspects. The event is part of the Narrar Castelli (Narrating Castles) cycle, dedicated to the fortified villages that dot the hills between Langa and Roero. It is an opportunity to get to know the Castle of Roddi up close and discover the blend of wine, history, and landscape that makes this part of the Langhe unique.
The excursion is suitable for walkers and enthusiasts of culture and landscapes, with a keen interest in the natural and historical aspects of the territory. Lunch is a packed meal to be enjoyed at a scenic spot along the way, with a return in the afternoon. At the end, a guided tour of the castle and a tasting of Langhe wines are available.
Organized by Terre Alte Escursioni e Turismo, a company specializing in trekking and wine-trekking between Langa and Roero, the initiative is an authentic gateway to the Barolo territory, far from the most crowded circuits.
