The series of 24 free concerts in Rodi Garganico, ranging from classical to jazz

Musica Libera is the music festival that brings Rodi Garganico to life every spring. Known as the "pearl of the Gargano," this town overlooks the sea in the province of Foggia, in the heart of northern Puglia. Born from an idea by the Associazione Luigi Russo and realized in collaboration with the Municipality of Rodi Garganico, the event presents a long series of musical appointments over several months, all with free admission.
The program features twenty-four concerts grouped into eight different sub-festivals, each with its own artistic and cultural identity. The journey ranges from classical music to jazz, and from folk music to ethnic incursions, with cross-pollinations of different styles and languages. The program traditionally closes with a concert by the Orchestra di Fiati Domenico Corigliano. Among the sub-festivals featured in previous editions are titles such as In Duo, Voci ad Arco, Forte Pianoโฆforte, Hyrium: Jazz & Folk, and Respiri d'Infinito, which is dedicated to chamber music.
The concerts are held in two evocative locations: the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Libera, the community's spiritual heart, and the Auditorium Luigi Russo, housed within the Convent of the Suore Discepole di Gesรน Eucaristico. These intimate spaces foster a direct connection between the audience and the performers.
The festival's central theme is the celebration of the female figure and the Madonna della Libera, the patron saint of Rodi Garganico. It is no coincidence that the edition symbolically opens around March 8th, International Women's Day, and concludes at the end of June, close to the festivities dedicated to the town's protector. The artistic direction is entrusted to Gianmichele D'Errico, with program curation by cellist Francesco Mastromatteo and the association's presidency held by Nicola Pupillo.
Musica Libera involves numerous artists from the Capitanata region alongside musicians from across Italy, offering the Gargano public a rare opportunity for high-quality listening during a time of year far from the major summer tourist flows. The free nature of all events makes the festival an authentic cultural service for the community of Rodi Garganico and the entire "Mountain of the Sun" area.
