The widespread jazz festival of the Peligna Valley stops in Pratola Peligna
Muntagninjazz is one of the most original jazz festivals in Abruzzo: a widespread and itinerant event that every summer brings great live music to the squares, woods, and mountain huts of the Peligna Valley, in the province of L'Aquila. Founded in 2007 and organized by the Muntagninjazz APS association, the festival involves about ten municipalities and dozens of different locations, transforming villages, natural theaters, springs, and mountain trails into open-air stages.
Among the municipalities that make up the widespread program is the Municipality of Pratola Peligna, a town nestled in the center of the Peligna Valley, at the foot of the Morrone massif and a few kilometers from Sulmona. With its Piazza Garibaldi, the monumental 19th-century fountain, and the famous Sanctuary of the Madonna della Libera, Pratola Peligna is one of the most vibrant centers in the valley and has for years been one of the festival's Abruzzo stops.
Muntagninjazz is not just a concert series: it is a cultural project that enhances the territory of the Peligna Valley and the Abruzzo mountains. Alongside evenings in village squares and major concerts in Sulmona, the festival offers concert-hikes that accompany the public to the most beautiful places in the district, between the Majella National Park and the surrounding nature reserves. The formula has made Muntagninjazz a recognized model of a widespread festival, capable of intertwining music, art, environment, and sustainable tourism throughout the province of L'Aquila.
In 2026, Muntagninjazz reaches the milestone of its twentieth edition, with a program running from July 23 to August 22 in ten municipalities of the Peligna Valley: Sulmona, Introdacqua, Capestrano, Pratola Peligna, Raiano, Pacentro, Anversa degli Abruzzi, Prezza, Campo di Giove, and Bugnara. A month of music that blends jazz, singer-songwriter music, concert-hikes, theater, and original productions, with big names in Italian jazz and evenings spread across squares and mountain landscapes.
Attending a stop of Muntagninjazz also means discovering Pratola Peligna, a town in inland Abruzzo located in the center of the Peligna Valley, between Sulmona and the Morrone and Majella ranges. The Sanctuary of the Madonna della Libera, a destination for deep religious and popular tradition, the square with its historic fountain, and the proximity to large natural parks make Pratola a reference point for the area. The festival's presence in the heart of the Abruzzo Region combines jazz music with the discovery of this corner of the valley.
For its twentieth anniversary (20th edition), Muntagninjazz returns from July 23 to August 22, 2026 with a program that weaves together jazz, singer-songwriter music, concert-hikes, theater, and original productions, distributed across ten municipalities of the Peligna Valley: Sulmona, Introdacqua, Capestrano, Pratola Peligna, Raiano, Pacentro, Anversa degli Abruzzi, Prezza, Campo di Giove, and Bugnara.
In 2026, Pratola Peligna is once again among the municipalities hosting the widespread festival. At the moment, the precise date and location of the Pratola stop have not yet been announced: the full program, with all dates and locations for each municipality, is published progressively on the official website muntagninjazz.it and on the festival's social media channels.
Pratola Peligna can be reached by car from the A25 motorway (Sulmona-Pratola Peligna exit), just a few kilometers from the toll booth. The town is served by the Pratola Peligna-Sulmona railway station, along the lines connecting Rome, Pescara, and L'Aquila; nearby Sulmona is the main railway hub of the valley.
The exact date and location of the Pratola Peligna stop are communicated progressively along with the full festival program. For times, meeting points, any concert-hikes, and ticket information, it is recommended to consult the official website muntagninjazz.it and the festival's social media channels, or to contact the organizers at the dedicated numbers.
