Two days dedicated to the mulberry tree and the silk tradition of Racconigi
The Mulberry Festival is an event that every year, at the beginning of June, brings back to the center of attention in Racconigi, in the province of Cuneo and in the heart of Piedmont, a tree as humble as it is decisive for the city's history: the mulberry. Its leaves nourished the silkworms that, for centuries, fueled the numerous silk mills of Racconigi, making this territory one of the hubs of the Piedmontese silk tradition.
Promoted by the Sul Filo della Seta association in collaboration with the Silk Museum and various local entities, the festival is not just a gastronomic event: it is a cultural journey that intertwines nature, memory, and creativity. The common thread is precisely that of silk, told through conferences, animated walks, and live demonstrations.
The program unfolds over two days. The informative part, hosted in the spaces of the Silk Museum on Via Giuseppe Garibaldi, entrusts agronomists and scholars with the task of explaining the botanical, historical, and cultural aspects of the mulberry and its role in the Racconigi of yesterday and today. The itinerant part, on the other hand, leads participants through the squares and ancient silk factories, in a walk punctuated by readings, choral pieces, and theatrical moments.
There is no shortage of silk reeling demonstrations, an ancient gesture that allows you to observe up close how the thread was extracted from the cocoon, and aperitifs that enhance products obtained from the mulberry. It is a concrete and engaging way to rediscover an identity that has marked the economy and landscape of the Cuneo area.
The Mulberry Festival is aimed at everyone: local history enthusiasts, families with children, hikers, and the simply curious. The activities, tailored to the public, allow you to experience Racconigi with a new look, far from the most beaten tourist circuits and close to the authentic roots of the city. To participate in the initiatives, reservations are required, given the intimate and participatory nature of the event.
