About Mozac Festival

The Mozac Festival is the village fair of Lenzumo, a small hamlet in the Municipality of Ledro nestled in Val Concei, a side valley of the Ledro Valley in the heart of Trentino. "Mozac" is the historical nickname for the people of Lenzumo, and this summer festival is dedicated to them, enlivening Piazza San Silvestro every late August with three days of local gastronomy, music, and traditional games. The star of the table is the Caponec, a vine-leaf-wrapped dumpling that is a small treasure of the Ledro Alps and Judicaria Biosphere Reserve.

The Mozac Festival in Lenzumo

The Mozac Festival is the traditional village fair of Lenzumo, a tiny hamlet in the Municipality of Ledro nestled in Val Concei, the side valley of the Ledro Valley that climbs toward the peaks of the Ledro Alps, at the southwestern tip of the Autonomous Province of Trento, in Trentino-Alto Adige. The festival's name comes from the inhabitants' nickname: the people of Lenzumo have always been called mozac, and it is to them and their community that this festival pays tribute every summer.

A village of 300 souls in the heart of the Ledro Alps

With just over three hundred inhabitants, Lenzumo gathers around the Church of San Silvestro Papa, built in 1676, and the square of the same name, which becomes the natural stage for the festival. The village's name is thought to derive from the Latin lanitium, a testament to the ancient wool processing that once fueled the valley's economy. Val Concei, with Lenzumo, Enguiso, and Locca, is today a popular destination for hiking and the pristine nature of the UNESCO Ledro Alps and Judicaria Biosphere Reserve.

Caponec, the star of the table

The festival's signature dish is the Caponec, one of the most characteristic flavors of the Ledro Valley: a soft dumpling wrapped in a vine leaf, filled with grated stale bread, cheese, eggs, lard or sausage, seasoned with herbs, parsley, and garlic, tied with string, and boiled in salted water. Traditionally prepared at the end of summer for village festivals, the Caponec has been recognized as a small intangible treasure of the territory, even being presented at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. Alongside the Caponec, the festival offers Polenta Carbonera and the staples of Trentino cuisine.

Greasy Pole, music, and games

Beyond the gastronomy, the Mozac Festival is famous for the Greasy Pole (Palo della Cuccagna) show, where acrobats climb the greased pole to the cheers of the crowd—a popular game rooted in ancient village celebrations. There is no shortage of live music with dance evenings, entertainment, and fun for children, all in an atmosphere of authentic village conviviality. The event, organized by the Pro Loco Concei, takes place over three days spanning the last Sunday of August.

Why it's worth visiting

The Mozac Festival is the ideal opportunity to discover an authentic corner of Trentino far from the main tourist flows, combining the discovery of Ledro Valley flavors with walks in Val Concei and the proximity of Lake Ledro and the Garda Trentino area. A genuine festival where the Lenzumo community opens the doors of its village to visitors and hikers.
