About Archeologia Estate Fiavè

Every summer, the "Renato Perini" archaeological site in Fiavè, in the heart of Trentino, comes alive with "Archeologia Estate": a rich calendar of guided tours, family workshops, performances, exhibitions, and concerts between the Pile Dwelling Museum and the Archeo Natura Park. The site, included in the UNESCO list of prehistoric pile dwellings around the Alps, invites visitors of all ages to discover the daily life of the farming communities that inhabited the shores of Lake Carera 3,500 years ago.

A dive into prehistory at the gates of the Brenta Dolomites

In the municipality of Fiavè, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), the archaeological hub named after archaeologist Renato Perini houses one of the most important pile dwelling areas in Europe. The site, the Pile Dwelling Museum, and the Archeo Natura Park are part of the "prehistoric pile dwellings around the Alps," recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Every summer, the Archeologia Estate festival, promoted by the Educational Services of the Archaeological Heritage Office of the Autonomous Province of Trento, transforms this location into an open-air laboratory where you can relive the daily life of the Bronze Age.

A day in a pile dwelling

The heart of the program consists of participatory guided tours called "A day in a pile dwelling," led by an archaeologist through the Archeo Natura Park to explore the reconstructed villages, the lake, and the survival techniques of our ancestors. These are complemented by "Did you say pile dwellings?" tours, designed to guide the public through the discovery of the museum and its archaeological collections.

Family workshops

From July to August, the calendar offers weekly activities dedicated to families, using an experimental approach that involves both adults and children. The workshops range from pottery making to weaving, from working with wool and natural fibers to dyeing with plant-based colors, as well as producing dairy products using prehistoric techniques and discovering the plants cultivated along the lake shores.

  • "A day in a pile dwelling" tours: appointments from late June to September in the Archeo Natura Park
  • Pottery, wool, dyeing, and dairy workshops for children and families
  • Performances: theatrical and storytelling shows dedicated to the little ones
  • Temporary exhibitions within the museum spaces
  • Concerts and special events in collaboration with other local festivals

Exhibitions, performances, and concerts

In addition to tours and workshops, each season enriches the offering with temporary exhibitions, theatrical performances for families, reading sessions, and musical events that engage with other Trentino festivals, such as concerts linked to the Musica Riva Festival. The calendar also includes the International Underwater Heritage Day, dedicated to the submerged archaeology of alpine lakes.

A heritage to be experienced

Immersed in the landscape of the Giudicarie valleys, just a few kilometers from the Comano Thermal Baths and the Brenta Dolomites, Fiavè offers a cultural experience suitable for all ages. Archeologia Estate is the best way to actively visit the UNESCO site, blending experimentation, educational play, and knowledge of Trentino's rich prehistoric past.
