An Alpine Rite Above Lake Garda

The Transumanza Festival in Tremosine sul Garda, a municipality in the province of Brescia overlooking Lake Garda from above, celebrates one of the oldest rites of alpine culture: transhumance, the autumn descent of herds from mountain pastures to the valley floor. It is an event that combines agro-pastoral tradition, community celebration, and the promotion of local products.

From Malga Ciapa to Alpe del Garda Dairy

The heart of the day is the herd's journey. The cows leave early in the morning from Malga Ciapa in Tremalzo and descend through the territory until they reach the Alpe del Garda Dairy, in Località Polsone. The procession of animals, accompanied by drovers, is the most evocative and anticipated moment, capable of attracting residents and visitors along the route.

Festival, Flavors, and Families

When the herd arrives, the festival comes alive: the Brescia-style spit-roast and polenta animate the food stand, while children can have fun with bouncy castles and a mechanical bull. It is an opportunity to get to know the world of alpine pastures and the Alpe del Garda cheese production chain up close, in one of the most fascinating landscapes of the Brescia area, suspended between the mountains and the lake.

The Transumanza Festival is organized by the Pro Loco of Tremosine and represents an important element in promoting the agro-pastoral traditions of the area. It is a way to keep alive the memory of an ancient craft, that of the drover and the cheesemaker, and to tell the alpine identity of Tremosine sul Garda.
