The Molisan black truffle festival in Miranda, between culture and taste
Miranda Borgo del Tartufo is the festival of culture and gastronomy that celebrates the Molisan summer black truffle (Tuber aestivum Vittadini) every summer in Miranda (province of Isernia, Molise), a village perched at over 800 meters above sea level. The event, organized by the Ricircolo Mirandese association with the patronage of the Province of Isernia and the Municipality, is the evolution of the historic Tartufata, which has attracted thousands of visitors for over twenty years.
The popular heart of the festival is La Tartufata: for several evenings, starting from 8:00 PM in Piazza Sant'Antonio and in the alleys of the historic center, the village transforms into a large open-air restaurant, where dishes based on black truffle are served. It is a beloved event, combining the conviviality of a village festival with the quality of an excellent product.
Alongside La Tartufata, the festival offers an articulated program: the General States of Molisan Truffle, an institutional conference bringing together institutions, businesses, scholars, and sector operators; gourmet dinners and show cooking with Molisan chefs; the Truffle Trekking, immersive experiences in the woods guided by truffle hunters and their dogs; and the market in Largo Fontana with local producers, crafts, street food, and fresh and processed truffles.
The Borgo del Tartufo is an opportunity to discover one of the most evocative villages in the Isernia hinterland and one of Molise's gastronomic excellences in its authentic context: the woods that produce it, the hands of the truffle hunters who seek it, and the community that has celebrated it for decades.
Following the first edition of the festival (2025) and the multi-year tradition of La Tartufata, a new edition of Borgo del Tartufo is expected in Miranda for the summer of 2026. As of today, the precise dates and program for the 2026 edition have not yet been published. The event traditionally takes place in the last week of July and, according to the established format, includes the Tartufata evenings in the historic center, conferences on Molisan truffles, show cooking, truffle treks in the woods with truffle hunters, and a producers' market.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition has not yet been published. It will be announced by the organization (Ricircolo Mirandese) on the official website borgodeltartufo.it and on social media channels. The usual structure of the festival includes: Tartufata evenings (open-air restaurant in Piazza Sant'Antonio), "General States of Molisan Truffle" conference, gourmet dinners and show cooking with Molisan chefs, Truffle Trekking in the woods with truffle hunters, producers' market in Largo Fontana.
The Tartufata evenings, the author show cooking, and the truffle treks in the woods remain the anticipated highlights for the 2026 edition.
