The summer music festival across Caldonazzo, Calceranica, and Levico Terme
The Midsummer International Music Encounters are the premier summer music festival in the Municipality of Caldonazzo, located in the heart of Valsugana, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). Organized by the Civica Società Musicale di Caldonazzo, the event spans the entire summer, from July to September, with about fifteen performances animating the evenings in three towns overlooking the valley's lakes: Caldonazzo, Calceranica al Lago, and Levico Terme.
The hallmark of the festival is its stylistic breadth: alongside classical and chamber music concerts, there is space for opera and operetta, harp music, organ recitals, and more popular evenings featuring rock, rockabilly, and tribute bands. Each event is hosted in a different, evocative location, making music a unique way to discover the historic and scenic heritage of Valsugana.
Two major sub-festivals are held within the main event. The Serassi Organ Festival showcases the region's historic organs through a series of concerts performed by internationally acclaimed organists. The Harp Festival, held at the end of the season between Levico Terme and Caldonazzo, features harp concerts and masterclasses with young performers from all over Europe.
One of the core values of the event is accessibility: all concerts are free to attend, with optional donations welcomed to support the association. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis, with no reservations required. The festival is supported by the Autonomous Province of Trento, the Trentino-Alto Adige Region, and the Municipalities of Caldonazzo and Levico Terme.
Attending a concert at the Midsummer Music Encounters means combining music with the discovery of the territory: the swimmable lakes of Caldonazzo and Levico, hiking trails, thermal spas, and historic villages provide the backdrop for evenings that blend artistic quality with an intimate atmosphere in one of Trentino's most beloved valleys.
The 2026 edition opens on July 2 at the Magnifica Corte Trapp with the inaugural concert by the Coro La Tor and the Brasskins brass quartet, and continues until September 6. Highlights include: Marco Pierobon and Federico Nicoletta with the Gershwin Night (July 7), the stops of the Serassi Organ Festival with Juan de la Rubia, Mattia Rosati, Lorenzo Ghielmi, and Pier Damiano Peretti, the concert by the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento (July 29), and rock evenings in Piazza Municipio with The Saguaros, Etereal, and MP and the Black Weather.
The end of the season, between late August and early September, is dedicated to the Harp Festival with harp concerts and masterclasses at the Habsburg Park Amphitheatre and the Palazzo delle Terme in Levico. The closing event, on September 6 at the Church of San Sisto, is entrusted to the Corale Polifonica di Calceranica.
Caldonazzo can be reached by car from the A22 motorway (Trento Sud or Trento Centro exits), continuing along the SS47 Valsugana road. By train, the Trento–Venice line stops at the Caldonazzo and Levico Terme stations.
Admission is free for all concerts, with optional donations to support the Civica Società Musicale. Most events start at 9:00 PM; some afternoon or outdoor concerts may have different times. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis, without reservation.
