The village of Montecatini Val di Cecina steps back into the Middle Ages to celebrate the summer solstice
For the first time, the village of Montecatini Val di Cecina, in the Province of Pisa, dons medieval attire to bring the Medieval Solstice to life. On June 20th and 21st, 2026, the cobblestone streets of the historic center and the evocative Castle become the stage for a reenactment celebrating the arrival of summer on the longest day of the year. It is a unique opportunity to discover a lesser-known corner of Tuscany, where the atmosphere of the hillside village naturally lends itself to a trip back in time.
The program alternates between grand spectacles and scenes of daily medieval life. Visitors can enjoy performances by archers and flag-wavers, thrilling costumed battles, and evocative fire performances that create a particularly enchanting atmosphere at sunset. Alongside the shows, there are medieval dances and historical groups animating the squares and alleys in period costumes.
Organized by the Pro Loco of Montecatini Val di Cecina, the Medieval Solstice aims to enhance the municipality's historical heritage and attract visitors to this part of inland Tuscany, nestled between the metalliferous hills and the Val di Cecina. Free admission for both days makes the festival accessible to everyone, from families to fans of historical reenactments.
The Medieval Solstice debuts in 2026 in Montecatini Val di Cecina with two days dedicated to historical reenactment in the heart of the Pisan village.
The event celebrates the summer solstice by transforming streets and squares into a medieval village animated by shows and activities for all ages.
