About Medieval Solstice

For its inaugural edition, the Medieval Solstice transforms the village of Montecatini Val di Cecina, in the province of Pisa, into an authentic medieval settlement. On June 20th and 21st, 2026, the historic center's streets and the Castle come alive with archers, flag-wavers, fire shows, medieval dances, and historical reenactment groups. The event features themed markets showcasing period crafts, costumed battles, and food stalls inspired by medieval traditions, all within a free-entry festival suitable for the whole family.

A journey into the past in the heart of Val di Cecina

For the first time, the village of Montecatini Val di Cecina, in the Province of Pisa, dons medieval attire to bring the Medieval Solstice to life. On June 20th and 21st, 2026, the cobblestone streets of the historic center and the evocative Castle become the stage for a reenactment celebrating the arrival of summer on the longest day of the year. It is a unique opportunity to discover a lesser-known corner of Tuscany, where the atmosphere of the hillside village naturally lends itself to a trip back in time.

Shows, battles, and the magic of fire

The program alternates between grand spectacles and scenes of daily medieval life. Visitors can enjoy performances by archers and flag-wavers, thrilling costumed battles, and evocative fire performances that create a particularly enchanting atmosphere at sunset. Alongside the shows, there are medieval dances and historical groups animating the squares and alleys in period costumes.

Markets, crafts, and period cuisine

  • Themed markets: Stalls dedicated to medieval craftsmanship, where you can discover period trades and objects.
  • Food stalls: Culinary offerings inspired by medieval traditions, to be enjoyed along the village streets.
  • Historical costume rental: Those who wish can wear a period costume for the duration of the event to fully immerse themselves in the atmosphere.
  • Workshops and activities designed to engage both adults and children.

A celebration for the village and authentic Tuscany

Organized by the Pro Loco of Montecatini Val di Cecina, the Medieval Solstice aims to enhance the municipality's historical heritage and attract visitors to this part of inland Tuscany, nestled between the metalliferous hills and the Val di Cecina. Free admission for both days makes the festival accessible to everyone, from families to fans of historical reenactments.
