The international half marathon on the seafront of Mazara del Vallo
The Mazara del Vallo Half Marathon is one of the most anticipated road running events in Western Sicily. Organised by the Gruppo Sportivo Atletica Mazara, with the patronage of the Municipality of Mazara del Vallo, it draws hundreds of athletes every late November to compete on the classic 21.097 km half marathon distance along a city course entirely closed to traffic.
The route winds between the sea, the historic centre, and iconic city landmarks, with the start and finish line on Lungomare Giuseppe Mazzini, near the grand staircase. The city circuit, which is completed over several laps, offers runners glimpses of the sea and the historic districts of this coastal city overlooking the Strait of Sicily, where Arab and Sicilian cultures have coexisted for centuries. The race is a national FIDAL Bronze Label event and serves as the Regional Individual Master Half Marathon Championship.
Alongside the competitive half marathon, a 7 km non-competitive race is held, open to amateur runners and families, which in recent years has also served as a stage of the Provincial Grand Prix. This makes the event a true celebration of popular sport, bringing together elite athletes and casual enthusiasts alike. The 2025 edition saw over 600 athletes from ten different nations take to the starting line, confirming the event's increasingly international appeal.
The Mazara Half Marathon is the final stage of the Running Sicily – Trofeo Packitalia circuit, the island's most important road running calendar, which begins in February and spans the entire region of Sicily. Closing the season in Mazara del Vallo, in the province of Trapani, has become a tradition for road running enthusiasts across the region.
The race is also an opportunity to discover Mazara del Vallo, a major fishing port in the province of Trapani, Sicily, famous for its Kasbah, the Dancing Satyr, and its splendid seafront. Running through these streets on a late autumn day is a unique and evocative way to experience the city.
