Natale Mediterraneo is the seasonal program through which the Municipality of Trapani, in collaboration with the Ente Luglio Musicale Trapanese, celebrates the holiday season. For over a month, from mid-December until Epiphany, the historic center of the provincial capital of Trapani, in Sicily, transforms into a trail of lights, music, and tradition, spanning squares, churches, theaters, and local neighborhoods.
The beating heart of the event is Villa Margherita, where Christmas markets are set up, offering artisanal crafts, gift ideas, and local specialties. Inside the municipal gardens, the ice skating rink—a long-standing favorite for children and teenagers—returns once again. Artistic illuminations decorate the city center, creating the quintessential atmosphere of Mediterranean festivities.
The festival's musical focus is clear: thanks to the Ente Luglio Musicale Trapanese, the program features gospel concerts, sacred music and classical performances, piano recitals dedicated to Christmas traditions, and choirs performing in churches and monumental complexes, such as the San Domenico complex. In the days following Christmas, roaming choirs and concerts fill the streets of the historic center.
Natale Mediterraneo is a widespread event, with most activities free of charge, blending spectacular performances with the intimate nature of religious and folk traditions. Over the years, it has become one of the most anticipated winter events in Trapani, drawing both residents and visitors to the city's historic center and surrounding villages.
The dates and program for the 2026 edition of Natale Mediterraneo have not yet been announced. The event, promoted by the Municipality of Trapani in collaboration with the Ente Luglio Musicale Trapanese, is traditionally held during the Christmas period and features markets, concerts, living nativity scenes, and the New Year's Eve concert. Information will be updated as soon as it becomes available from the organizers.
Trapani is accessible by car via the A29 Palermo-Mazara del Vallo motorway. The Trapani train station connects to Palermo and major Sicilian cities. Trapani-Birgi Airport (Vincenzo Florio) is approximately 15 km from the center.
Events take place in Trapani's historic center: Villa Margherita, Piazza Municipio, the San Domenico complex, and surrounding municipal villages. The festival runs from December through Epiphany.
Most events, markets, and attractions are free to enter; some concerts may require a ticket. The ice skating rink requires an entry fee. For the detailed program and schedules, please consult the Municipality of Trapani's website.
